Hi,

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but untl you get it sorted, do not drive the car as further damage may result.

If doing the work yourself, figure $500-$600. If farming it out, triple that. Depending upon mileage, you may elect to have the head reconditioned at the same time as well as rebuilding the waterpump and replacing all hoses as much of the expense involved in these is pulling the engine in the first place which you are already doing. Reset Cam timing to 104 MOP and possbly replace stock 107 intake Cam for a 104 Cam. Good time to consider rebuilding the wastegate and Turbo as well. All depends on how thorough you want to be and the degree with which your wallet will cooperate. Hope this helps. Happy Motoring!...Jim'85TE

How is your oil pressure? If it looks ok, you may want to investigate the possibility of it being just a big end bearing. These can be replaced with the engine in place just by removing the oil pan. Big end bearings run about $25 per pot ($12.50 per half shell from Dave Bean). If you are not the mechanical kind have someone who knows what they are doing take a listen to it with a mechanics stethoscope.

As Jim said though; if it is the main's, it is time for a complete rebuild (get out your check book).

Hope this helps,

Mark,

Hate to disagree, but you always need to pull the crank and mic it to insure it is within spec and you should also have it polished. $25/Big-end sounds about right unless you have to go oversized.

For 0.010" over figure $50 per, 0.020" - $75 per, 0.030" - $100 per. There is such a small market for the oversized shells they are able to charge a ransom for them, then figure $100 for service to the crank. Happy Motoring!...Jim'85TE

Hey Jim,

No problems with the disagreement, but the shop manual says different (section EB16, Page 42). Not sure what kind of a mic. you are using but the one I use fits in there ok, unless you are talking about mic'ing the mains of course, which as I said requires the crank to be pulled.

On a different subject: dyno'd in at just above 340hp last week after the rebuild. Not bed eh? Got through emissions too (not with the same fuel map of course), and the gearbox is still intact (for now at least).
