Stereo in the roof!?
Discussion
I seem to recall that way back in the mists of time I saw an Esprit that had the ICE head unit installed in a roof 'pod'.
Did I dream it? If not, which model? Does it eject tapes behind the seats?
If it did happen, I wonder if it would be worth recreating the idea for SatNav, LCD monitor, reversing camera etc?
Obviously not on my car, me being impecunious and what have you; merely food for thought...

the first Esprit turbo, The Essex turbo (and a few very early turbos in non essex script) had a custom panasonic unit mounted in the roof.
On the LEW owners page there are two G-cars with this, one is the silver EX-Chapman car (Mike Fords car, shows a picture of the roof sterio too),the other i believe is a claret metallic.
Is that what you mean?

Yes...my mate has an Essex and the Panasonic 'Cockpit' stereo to give it its correct title still looks the business even today! It has a habit of chewing tapes?! I understand the Panasonic unit even back in 1980 cost about £1200-£1500!!!!!! Serious stereo money even now.
Nothings beaten it for looks though. That David Thieme certainly had expensive buy exquisite taste!
