Last week - esprit SE ( on 89 ) was running fine.
Pulled in to petrol garage and only put £10 of super unleaded in and tried some octane booster.
Pulled out of petrol garage got about 100 meters down the road ( full thottle ) car juddered a bit, so I dipped the clutch and engine is noe idleing at 5000rpm!!! Turned car off and re-started and still the same. Limped it home and tried in the morning and still idleing around 3-4000rpm and then dies after about 1 minute but will start straight back up????

Battry is dead and now needs replacing and have recently fitted a V8 tailgate with no engine cover yet if this is of any relavence.

Cheers Kev

First are some of the obvious causes.
Have your checked the throttle cable. It can come out a little at either the pedal or engine end, and rest on the edge of the hole. This effectively means throttle is slightly depressed.

I wouldn't plame fuel or octane booster as that would need a few miles before it even got into the fuel system most probably.

The thottle cable seems fine. Its a new one that I had fitted about a month ago. Also the 'check engine' light is on.

Kev,

As with all engine running issues we really need a Freescan log and the error codes from the ECU inorder to help out.

If the fans are also on permanently you are in "limp home mode".

I had elevated idle when I used fuel that had ethanol added to boost octane. It went to 2K at idle. I had to reset the ECU. the difference in the fuel rating was 93 to 95. I went back to the 93 and it idled like normal after that. Don't have an experience with octane boosters.

Try resetting your ECU. Simply unplug it for half an hour and try it again. It seams that any changes to your set up will upset the ECU and it goes crazy. This is a simple test that won't cost you a penny to try.

I'll bet you one pound that if you drain the fuel now in the car and replace it with the usual fuel (93 I think you said), all will be resolved.
