I was driving the car the other day and noticed my alt gauge started to drop. so I turned around and headed back to the house. The car ran fine the whole time. got to the house and the battery was dead when I tried to restart it.Took the alt off and had it rebuilt.Put it back on today and the started and ran fine and was charging at 14 volts. So I let it warm up and went to drive it. all is fine till I get to about 3200 to 3500 rpm then the car starts to fall on its face . if u push down on the gas its like the car quits running. let off and its back to normal. its like its looses it spark or fuel or something at that rpm. the car has beening running great the whole time till the alt went out. any help? Thanks

When the car died the first time did it backfire?

Sometimes when the ECU does not get enough voltage the sensors malfuction and gives an incorrect air/fuel mix the resulting backfire can loosen some hose connections.

Also seems like the turbo wastegate capsule, the hose that controls the capsule or the actuator maybe disconnected or not working.

That would make the car feel like it was running out of gas as it would detect it as an overboost and shut it down usually around 3.5K. If this is the case the boost will go way high for a sec and then shut down on full or near full throttle.

The car runs great and will rev all the way up only when not driving. The car only will not rev up when u are driving the car. 3200 to 3500 when driving it like falls on it face. let off the gas and alls fine till it hits 3200- 3500 rpm agian. Like I said it will rev its brains out as long as its not under a load .

The turbo boost does not really spike up that much when the engine is not uder load as in reving the engine so it would not go into overboost while standing. With WOT at speed the turbo will kick in right around 3K+ and if it thinks it is in overboost the engine will shut down until the overboost condition goes away. Does the turbo boost spike up past 1 bar before shutting down?

Also is your fuel rail pressure okay?

Hi,
read out your fault codes.I think it`s code 42.
My 92 SE has had the same problem between 3000 and 3500rpm.It was the Electronic Spark Timing Circuit.
If this is the problem you need a new ECU.
Hope this helps.
