Selling my Esprit Sport300
Discussion
It could face some gray market problems on resale.
What were the conditions on the import if any?
What does the California title on the car describe it as?
Is it a true SP300. I'm not sure they came with A/C or not. I would say it would command a price a little over an S4s. It is just about the same except for the power steering and LSD.

If it had not been registered for street use in the USA it would be a pain to have it converted for street use. Many gray markets cars brought in face many challenges and obstacles. I would not speculate on what needs to done to be able to register it in the USA.
If it is bought with the intention of registering it for street use. The buyer must research what needs to done to bring it into compliance with DOT/EPA. I have heard of people doing it for some cars but it was an expensive thing to do.
With the only off street use allowable for the car it would certainly not fetch as much on the USA market and the person loking for such a track car only would be a bit more limited.

Hi,
There are lots of issues regarding the importation of cars, from EPA emissions compliance/certification to DOT safety requirements/certification.
Two good sources of information are:
www.epa.gov/otaq/imports , and www.importexporthelp.com/importing-cars.htm .
Hope this helps. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

For those that wish to it could be purchased and then registered as a self-assembly car in a number of states. I know, I've got lots of experience in this area and help folks through it with their 40s and other cars. However, it would loose the Lotus name, would require some creative work on MSO or receipts for parts, and generally be a pain in the ass.
On the other hand, if one has a Lotus already it could be purchased and driven by switching tags. Not legal, but doubtful it would ever be determined, even in traffic stops. Heck, if this had come up before I bought a new house I'd be game. Still have it in a few months email me.
You should be able to find a Euro buyer given the strong European currency. If you're willing to sell for $25000, that is only 20,500 Euro at the current rate of 1.21 Eu/USD. Not bad at all! But VAT and a bunch of other crap would jack it back up.
