I just bought a 1998 Esprit V8SE with 17000 miles on it. I am very happy with my new car. But I am very unhappy with the feel of the accelerator peddle. Having owned multiple Porsche's and been at one time a Porsche mechanic I feel that I am quite familiar with the feel of a worn accelerator cable (at least in a Porsche). However the mechanic at the dealership seems to feel that the accelerator feels normal and thinks I would be wasting my money to have it changed out. To me the peddle feels sluggish and takes considerable effort to depress. It also seems to reset slowly. This makes for very tense driving in traffic. With the amount of power I am playing with it seems to me that a light and very controllable accelerator would be essential. Can anyone give me any wizdom on this. Is this sluggish feel normal? If so can anyone recommend any upgrades or modifications?

Thanks in advance

Bob

Hi Bob

I've just bought a Sport 350 ( 5 weeks ago ) and I think the accelerator feels very stiff as well. It makes changing gear at high revs a bit jerky. I've asked a few V8 owners about it and they tell me that it's quite normal. It also can be tricky in traffic as I tend not to put enough revs in whilst moving in 1st. Now I've had it a few weeks I've got a bit better by learning to depress it more than I did on my GT3. Hope this helps a bit.

Well, my 2000 V8 has over 34K miles and I don't find the accelerator to be sluggish or cause shifting problems at high-speed. The cable itself could be the cause, but I would first suggest checking the throttle linkage at the left rear of the plenum. This area tends to get quite dirty and needs to be disassembled, cleaned, greased and reassembled every so often. If not this may give you a sticky feeling. Also be certain that the buttefly assembly rotates easily and has a solid return spring feel.
