Sounds like you have either an O2 sensor that went bad or possibly one of the connectors got corroded, loose, etc.

There are 4 O2 sensors on the V8, the primary ones are right out of the turbo and before the cat, the secondary O2 sensors are between the first and second cats. The connectors are neatly hidden under the rear boot floor, with the secondaries being on the topside of the gearbox.

I suggest you check for broken wires from the O2 sensors to the connectors and from the connectors back thru the harness towards the ECM as the wire harness has been known to get frayed where the clamps hold them in place at the right rear of the motor.

Next, check the connectors themselves to ensure they are not corroded and are making proper contact. If all else fails you may indeed have a faulty O2 sensor which you test by swapping with one of the others and see if the error code points to a different sensor.
