OK Guys.

I am tired of hearing how fast and great an Esprit is.

Here's what I need. One Esprit in CO that isnt a &^*#$@ and thinks they are fast and wants to defend the honor of Lotus. I could care less about excuses like second gear breaking or any other excuses.

I have heard how great they are and nothing is faster. Well lotus lotus boys. Let me take my low tech POS and spank ya around royally.

I just need ONE little lotus onwer to step up to the plate.

Its simple. You pick the starting speed. We video tape the whooping and it gets posted.

Ya, you will look like a fool next to a little old busa, but its the only way I can difinativbely have an Esprit owner STFU that onnly makes excuses about not racing.

Come on. Any takers? Come on, I have heard how fast an Esprit is and how high tech and that nothing can catch them. Lets see an Esprit go.

High tech? I do not think so. You clearly have no idea what Lotus is about a certainly don't seem to know much about Esprit owners....

We love them. That is enough. Are they fast? Sure... but who cars? I mean... any teenager with a $2000.00 Honda can poor $5,000.00 + dollars into it and get it to go fast. Hell, toss in some NOS, a speed shifter, and race tires and speed is right there. I love cars. Period. I even like those "tuners"... but stock they ain't. They don't even really require any skill to drive. Stright line... get into the real world. A road course is where it is at. NOS won't do much for you in an autocross run or at Road Atlanta's S curves.

Esprit has a history, a sence of style and class, and a group of owners that drive them because they love them. Most of us (while it is fun to be seen) could give a rip about showing off to the masses. We just want to drive our cars.
But...
If you want to race... in Colorodo...

Call Ken Hill at 1-970-242-3800 / Grand Junction.

I think he's prob got an MX-5 Miata that will leave you someplace back in Alabama...

Drive topless!!!

Whoa, let's not go crazy here! Honda.... going fast? No way!

Anyway, I am still trying to figure out where he got the idea we all think the Lotus is the fastest thing ever made. Fast? Yes. Unbeatable? not at all. Great? I think so, but opinions will vary.

And why would you want us to race a busa? I can only assume you mean the bike.

Gotta love trolls. And to think, imports are the ones getting the bad rap.

How Funny,

I do know Esprit owners.

It seems they always want to quote how fast a magazine says they are from 0-60 and then want to claim that they are road race cars and not for acceleration.

I could care less what a magazine says (yes, I have seen the 4.4 second quote, etc, etc, etc).

I have no interest is playing with a miata. Thats not even worth the time. Before you spout that he will leave in in Bama, you may want to reconsider and read what I said. Hell, I aint even pulling any street racing BS. I was straight up pand told ya what I am running.

I doubt ANY miata (whether a turbo 5.0 or what ever) would stand a chance.

You guys may think I am full of crap. Thats fine. One of your lotus borthers may just read this. If he does, he knows what this is about. Yep. He wants to talk about how fast an Esprit SE is, but wont run it. He knows what I have. I dont care if its the "taxi cab" esprit that runs around here. He's actually a down to earth guy. He knows what to play with and what not to.

Come on. You guys need to step in and get you lotus brother to put up if the car is so fast....I mean its only a handful of people that I could be talking about...

I REALLY want to run that person...but any Esprit will do just to shut him up.

Your right. Its not only imports that do this.

Its Esprit SE driver who think X180Rs and V8TTs will take a busa.

I have been telling this person for years to shut up or put up. Now I am calling him out in front of you all.

I will make the same offer here as I have to him.

I have told him that I will spank him in my car or on my bike. Hell, I couldn't even get a race against a Jeep.

Here are the excuses I hear:
"second gear will break" " I will race you if you buy me a new transmission" "the magazine says my car goes 0-60 in 4.8 seconds" "its not a drag car" " I cant shift" " I can't launch"

Come on. Lets Race.

Here's the real reason this will neer happen. If he doesn't race, he can't loose.

Call him out boys. He make you look like fools.

Here just so he knows who I am.

Well, for the most part, you're probably not that welcome based on your antagonistic posting and attitude. But, here's a chance to learn something about straight-line performance which is your obvious goal.... so, goto:

www.gtechpro.com/index.html

Then do a little reading... if you have figured out what the GTech is and what it does, congrats... keep reading. If not, stop here, hit reply and type something else that's really stupid.

Still here? Okay, goto this link and download the PASS application.

www.gtechprosupport.com/support/

Next install the app and you're ready to acquire some run data from users who have provided run data they have acquired using the GTech. Next, visit this link:

www.gtechproforums.com/forums/

At the bottom is a list of cars, Muscle cars, Corvettes, Asian cars, European cars, etc. Browse around, read some posts and download some runs and compare them in the PASS application. You can compare a Corvette Z06 to a Porsche 911TT, to a new 350Z or BMW M3. You can also find a Lotus Esprit V8 run (it's under European cars).

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to appreciate the Lotus beyond the simple numbers and graphs that the Gtech provides... and maybe not even that. The Lotus is a balance of many attributes, acceleration is but one... others include, handling, braking, response, feedback and consistency. If you want to share about cars, that's great. If you want to compare sizes, go back to the playground.

WS6,

You already posted here once about how you "raped" an Esprit. So why are you here again wanting to prove your manhood? Did you just make up the first post?

I will agree with you on one point though that a stock Esprit will not outrun a busa....so what?

You are laughing about our transmission?
Have you ever heard about clutch problems and timing chain tensioner on your Hayabusa.Do you know the Nürburgring?I'm waiting for you! :-))

If what you say is true and he is talking that much smack, then the only person he makes look like a fool is himself. Otherwise, you would make all WS6 and busa guys look like asses as well.

So you consider racing against a Miata to be "beneath you". Maybe then you understand why we would have no interest in playing with a TransAm. It wouldn't be worth our time. I mean think of it, what's in it for the Esprit driver? I'm sure most Esprit drivers have no desire to claim that they beat a TransAm. Big deal! Win or lose, it's a no-win situation for the Esprit driver.

You need to educate yourself a lot more about Lotus cars before you post on this forum. The Esprit is a very limited production hand-built exotic supercar. The TransAm was a mass-produced sporty car. Since 1976 approximately 10,000 Esprits were built. During the same time frame approximately 2 MILLION TransAm's were built (source = www.thepontiactransampage.com/production.html).

It takes about 3.5 man-months to build one Esprit. During some years, a new TransAm came off the assembly line approximately every 5 minutes! If something happens to a TransAm in a race, replacement parts are no further than your nearest junkyard, part store, dealer, or aftermarket source. It probably won't even cost that much to replace. If something breaks in the Esprit, parts availability may mean waiting weeks or months to track down a part that in some cases may cost more than your entire TransAm! In fact, a replacement gearbox alone could buy a couple of used WS6s. And all this for what, so that we can claim we won (or lost) a silly street race against a TransAm? - I think not!

For the record, I don't know what Esprit SE driver you're talking to, but he's also been smoking some funny weed if he thinks it will beat a Hayabusa.
But keep in mind that the Esprit SE only has 4-cylinders versus your eight and it still is probably faster than your car.

This bloke is on the wind up i think.
His last post was a meandering stab at stirring us all up - and he got three pages of us ranting without needing any more input of his own.
A job well done.

I think we are talking to a room of giggling teenagers who go from forum to forum having a laugh.
I bet they do prank calls too. Can anyone link his folks a parental filter Please.

I'll race him and his bicycle. Let's say a mile straight course with a handful of cones at the end for slalom type stuff and then turn round and do the mile straight back again.

Two criterea though....

1 We wear shorts and t shirts.
2 Rubbing is most definately racing.

Can't believe I've written that. I sound more of a bedroom loving numpty than he does.....

Why on earth is it so important for you to race an Esprit anyways? If you have an obnoxious friend who claims his Esprit will beat anything, including a Hayabusa in a drag race, but won't back his claims, then you've pretty much proved he's an idiot anyways.

You need to know something about car owners WS6. Some are great, some are royal pricks. Even some Esprit owners.

The problem is, right now, you are really coming off as a prick T/A and Busa owner.

Bottom line is, if you wanted to torch an Esprit, and had the cash to do it, there's no doubt you could. Head down to a dragstrip sometime...there are guys down there running some ridiulously fast cars...I'm talking 1/4 mile in the time it takes your stock WS6 to hit 60.

At then end of it all, you have to ask yourself, does the fact you went out and bought a Trans Am, like 2 million other people did, make you a man? If that's what you think it takes, that's pretty troubling.

Just go drive, and enjoy your car man. That's all I do. If someone wants to have a go, and is friendly about it, I'll have a go...but why race someone who is just being an ass? I'm 30 years old, I've got a great job, great family, great car, great life. I don't need to blow someone's doors off to make it all complete.

Just some random thoughts by Mad Mike.

FastWS6,

Most of us have made some good points here about our cars, and I don't think we've come across as a-holes who are just looking to defend our honor.

For the record, I owned a black 1998 WS6. At the time, it was probably the best all-around performance car available for the money. It was quite fast and had a great exhaust note. The pushrod V8 is well designed and produces a ton of torque; it's also very fuel efficent.

Now I own the 1993.5 SE and a black 2004 Z06. Here is a picture of the Z at Virginia International Raceway, Danville, VA. The SE is in my gallery and on the picture thread.

I've given up on straight-line acceleration (although both the Z06 and my 1993.5 Esprit SE have plenty of pull 0-60 and to the 1/4) and have purchased cars that can do A LOT of things well. For example, the Z06 with the Nurburgring-tuned suspension takes corners better than most cars on earth and thus set times on that track better than most of the stock street cars ever tested.

If you want to race, you can contact me to do a track day at Road Atlanta. The live-axle on the WS6 always made some tight corners tricky, but it should be fun for you anyway. Esprit or Z06, I just love driving and racing these cars. Celebrate what you got for the money and enjoy the strengths of other people's rides, and forget about the a-holes. There's always someone faster, and there's always two people with bigger mouths. As Jim says, Happy Motoring.

First of all - we're not children (well most of us anyway - Brian The Yank is exempt)...

Second of all - If you want to discuss something, please do, but do it in a civilized manner. Coming into the forums and attempting to use them to "call somebody out" or to attempt to "settle some score" in the real world will not be tolerated.

Please govern yourself accordingly...

Yep.

Funny.

To the guy in Germany. You assume alot. Where is the ring again? Is it near the Mosul river in the Eifel mountains? You just may be able to tell a thing or two that I may just know where it is for some strange reason.....

You seem to be making excuses now. I am not making excuses saying I have a cam chain tensioner problem.

It seems really funny. I get all the magazine ang G-Tech articles. Wow. Just what I said was going to happen.

You people crack me up. "lets go to road atlanta". What seems to be the underlying theme here is that yu think that I can't roadrace. You may want to rethink that little statement. Any of you who know what a Honda RS125 may know a little different. Yes, I raced one.

I still haven't seen the person who claims Esprit superiority chime in. Kinda funny, huh? Oh, yeah, I forgot, he must be out driving the car and everyone thinks its a Ferrari becuase it uses the same brand alternator...

You guys have the impression that I don't like exotic cars. I actually do. Esprits are neat cars. What I have seen of most esprit owner is simply excuses. I have seen the same thing in other makes of cars (yes, even the make of car I drive). The one make that I actually must give kudos to is vettes. At least vette owners will actually run their cars. Can't talk too much crap to them before you have to put up. The Esprit owner. For two years I haev heard how fast it is. I was told that and Esprit is faster than anything. I have blatabtly told the esprit driver that I will race him in my car, on my bike, i don;t care. I all get is excuses.

Maybe, just maybe, some exotci car drivers will start to be like vette drivers....

Can't say I didn't warn you...

Because most in the Esprit Forum have never seen the small red "Sin Bin" letters under a user's name, let me explain:

There is a special forum called the "Sin Bin" on Pistonheads where rule breakers are sent. If they repent, and agree to follow the rules, then they are let out and can continue posting. If they violate the rules again, they are banned...

Now back to our regularly scheduled posting...
