Hi All,

Not sure if anyone can help on this one, but I've planning for a while to make the trek from Australia to the Goodwood Revival and I'm pretty excited I'll be able to make it this year.

I plan to get into period dress (so far I'm favouring mechanic or Le Mans driver or something..) but I realise I don't know much about the event. I want to get the best experience from the event since I'm coming in from the other side of the world, so I was hoping if anyone can tell me how can I get closest to the track, pits or any kind of action (ladies? smile)

Can anyone give me some insider tips?

Also, I'll be there for the whole weekend so can anyone recommend a good place to stay? (Not too expensive but clean..)
Thanks!
-John

Hi,

Getting somewhere to stay will be your main problem I think, as everywhere books up very early and the best places will have repeat bookings. I'd recommend looking on the Travelodge, Travel Inn and Premier Lodge chain hotel websites and just book a room if you can because you can normally cancel up to the day in question if you find something better. Laterooms.com is a good website too (although I've not used it myself recently).

The Revival is a fabulous event, and honestly, you will see plenty. It gets crowded at the best corners, but it's worth spending at least one day trekking round the track. Not only is every corner great, even the entry, apex and exit of each corner has it's own character.

On the Sunday we always head over to the 'straight' between Fordwater and St Mary's for the main TT. There are far fewer people over there and if it's hot there is often a cooling breeze blowing in behind us. We always enjoy watching the TT cars approach St Marys at speed, and watch how they enter St Marys.

Re the pits, you won't get into the pits themselves, but look for the spot where the cars leave the circuit after each race - there is an access tunnel nearby and you get close to the cars and drivers at that spot. The first three finishers of each race always stop on the main straight for their trophy and post-race interview, but then they drive around the circuit afterwards and leave the circuit at the same spot as everyone else, but by then most of the other cars and drivers have gone and blagging an autograph from the winning drivers is very easy.

Be assured, you *will* enjoy the event, it's fabulous, and you'll be glad you dressed up. Make time for seeing the attractions on the outside of the circuit too. Keep an eye out for the professional dancers at the different bandstands, they're great to see. smile

Failing the chain hotel route, look for Bed & Breakfast places in the small towns & villages south of Goodwood like Bognor Regis, Selsey, Pagham, Middleton, Oving, Bersted, Felpham, Siddlesham etc.

There are web sites like this one to help: http://www.bedandbreakfasts.co.uk/ (the postcode for Goodwood is PO18).

Traffic from the south is easier and avoids bottle necks, there are plentiful pubs and restuarants in the area too.
