200+ miles on the longest day of the year, Kent to Somerset, starting at sunrise, free to enter.

I'm in.

Interesting! Hassle for the start and finish though. I'm doing my own 200 mile ride in June with 4 friends. This is a box ticking exercise for me. I can't see why I would want to do it again!

I'm very tempted.....
I've just done my first 100, with 5700 ft of climbing it wasn't the easiest route...

I think I could hit condition by then :-)

As mentioned - great in theory, (and there are a few of us that would be keen among my mates) but the logistics of getting back would be a pain in the bum..
Unless we stay a night, and then ride back the following day...

We've yet to sort logistics, waiting to see if any more join us. Chances are I'll drive down there earlier in the week and bike/train it back to Sussex, that way Change of clothes etc can be at the finish.

11 year bump but saves another thread.

I've been talked into doing this next summer. Has anyone else made bad life choices and done this event? How much pain am I in for? My longest ride to date is c250k which was Liege Bastogne Liege, in horrendous weather. Lots of 200km rides over the years but never cracked an old school double century.

It hugely depends on the route and elevation. I last did 200miles in wales with 19,000ft elevation. Depending on your fitness and what you plan to do for the next week or so, will answer how much pain you will be in.

I had trained reasonably for this ride, but the elevation killed me, I would suggest using smaller gearing that you think you need. also get some long days in the saddle in the build up.

I suffered with achillies pain for 2 months after.

Would I do it again, yes.

If you're ok doing 200km I'd say you'll be fine - it's not a very hilly route

I completed the ride on Saturday. Loooong day in the saddle, over 14hrs and 7000 calories to be precise. I hurt in places I've never hurt after 250km.

209 miles / 335km in total with a short ride to the start. Route was generally decent except riding through London and constantly stopping at traffic lights, a long tar and chipping section and some gravel on single track roads that caused an accident in front of me. Cheddar Gorge was race track smooth so that allowed a full send down there almost empty road which was the highlight of the ride.

The weather conditions were almost ideal, warm enough but overcast, just a shame about the headwind which Strava advised was 90% of the ride but it wasn't that noticeable.

We had a support car join us in west London and followed us to the finish so we could stop where we wanted for refueling and that was game changer both physically and mentally.

Roadside support and the friendliness of the other riders made it an enjoyable event. If you're considering it, chase that sun!

Great to hear. Me and a mate cycled out towards Sheppey at 5am until we met the groups of riders coming the other way then turned round and did the first hour before heading back to Rochester for breakfast. Great atmosphere, chatted to loads of ppl who had come from all sorts of places to do it, Scotland, Isle of Wight and various others.

Defo doing it properly next year. I did support car duties for my dad in 2021 so he owes me a favour
