Whyte T-130 RS present :-)
Discussion
Well my 9 year old special needs stumpjumper fsr is being retired. Popped into a local bike shop yesterday and bought a whyte. Nearly bought it online but they excluded whyte from their 15% sale discount. Anyway I happened to be passing, popped in, said I'd buy it and they applied the discount without me asking. In fact I wasn't even going to ask. So £450 off. Am pleased and can't wait to pick it up.
First ride this morning. So my first impressions:
- feels faster and takes less effort on smooth climbs
- is faster down descents
- weird to spin out at I guess 25 mph
- granny gear is fine
- doesn't feels as nimble on technical climbs but is more planted over the rocks
- was able to take some slightly different lines up technical climbs as the larger wheels gave confidence over small ish rocks
- wider handle bars are comfortable but horrid when making a slow tight turn
- already broken two teeth off largest rear ring
- don't like the curved pedal cranks as unlocking spd's is harder
- bike seems to bottom out more than the specialised on rocks etc
- need to get used to new geometry as my weight distribution wasn't quite right eg braking on technical bits I found my weight was too far forward
- overall the bike feels much more solid and efficient.

Absolutely love mine. Bought as a very tidy ex-demonstrator in April with 20% off and have ridden the tits off it every weekend since.
I've just replaced most of the drivetrain, but I had put about 1000 miles on it in all conditions.
No major problems to report, other than a typical warranty replacement Reverb. Just replaced bearings in the SRAM Roams with proper aftermarket jobs and that's made a nice difference. Tubeless conversion was a doddle and the Pikes give a bit more support with two tokens. Also about to fit a 140mm airshaft in the PIKEs to see how that changes the feel and aptitude for more downhill-based riding.
I'm definitely riding with more confidence than I ever have - be it all dayers with a lot of climbing, or a proper thrashing around the Surrey Hills on the fun stuff. Looking forward to getting over to BPW et al in the Spring.

So almost a year in....still finding this bike an awesome piece of kit. My times are considerably faster compared to my times on my old stumpjumper fsr over previous years.
Just had it serviced. Quite a few bearings needed replacing but all was well with drivetrain and suspension. The single ring at the front seems to mean less wear to rear cassette and chain.
Riding the old bike when the Whyte was in for a service made for a stark contrast. The 10 year old bike is in good order but still felt pretty horrid in comparison.
