My pals and I have just got our entry in for this event, as our first ever endurance cycling event:

www.redbull.com/gb-en/events/timelaps

For the geek that I am, I love that it's the longest day-long endurance event ever! I work with a lot of data spread over half-hourly periods, so this date causes me no end of grief. I like that it will do the same when off work too.

I've fancied doing the event at the Nurburgring, but Windsor is significantly easier to get to!

Anyone else involved?

Thought about it but doing Revolve24 again so couldn't be bothered, plus the lack of proper buildings etc puts me off.

I'm not - but I'd like to do it, I know you can enter individually and get allocated a team but that's a little random.

If anyone has a space or wants to set up a team then let me know.

Probably not for me.

I think they've missed a trick too. It's two sides of the 1948 Olympic Road Race circuit, with the top and bottom trimmed. I'd have liked to have seen it follow the 1948 lap, but alas that would mean closing two roads outside the park boundary, and I'm not sure any local authority would want to do that for 25 hours!

It's also partly on private roads through the park, so it ought to make for a pretty exclusive Strava segment as 'outsiders' would be prohibited from riding the route outside of event day.

Great idea though. Hope it's well supported and well run.

According to Strava, it's a 4.1 mile lap with 230-ish feet of climbing per lap. Breakheart Hill, up to the polo fields, (if indeed it's included as an 'up' not a 'down') might not be the worst hill you've ever climbed, but do it once every 15 to 20 minutes for over a day and I reckon you'll soon find an intense dislike for it... wink

Have a good one!

Chum of mine will be mechanicing for Wiggle - in theory they're there to support the Wiggle team, but they should be okay to help anyone else who has a problem.

Have a good one.

Is this the first time this event will run? It'll be interesting to get your thoughts afterwards.

I only read about it last weekend, but like the sound of it, so your views would help decide whether to put it on the things to do in 2018 list.

Enjoy it

It looks as though that power hour could prove significant in the overall result

The shorter lap is a lot shorter and each of those laps counts as if it were two longer laps in the final score

Sorry for the delay, full write up coming in the next day or so. The executive summary:

  1. Very well organised, friendly and helpful staff.
  2. Great course for the event (think slightly shorter, slightly flatter Richmond Park.)
  3. I really hope the chap who came off and stopped the race for 2 hours gets well soon.
  4. Really enjoyed it, but unsure whether I would do another one.
  5. Thank fk it didn't rain.
  6. £5 and a 20 minute wait for a small pot of porridge is taking the piss.
