Looking to change tyres for my commute, now that the weather is on the turn.
What is the best tyre for a combo of puncture resistance and cold and wet weather grip?
I am edging towards Conti 4 seasons?

Schwalbe Durano plus performance.

Insane puncture resistance. I have them on my "winter wheels", they've lasted 2 winters so far over some awful terrain and they still don't have any cuts/nicks in them and have been absolutely fine. They do, however, weigh as much as the moon.

Perhaps stupidly, I have had so much confidence with them that I've done numerous rides without carrying a spare tube etc.

Have been using Maxxis Overdrive on my slick-shod MTB commuter for a number of years. Can't remember a puncture and that includes firetrail/singletrack use.

Also, gravel bike came with Clements front and rear and have yet to puncture those in 12 months of trying. Again, road and firetrail/singletrack use.

Sorry, should have said, I will be running 700x32 or 700x 28. Not sure the Maxxis is made that narrow....

I'd agree, I run these in 700x32 on my commute through London and they've proved very tough.

Grip will be shocking on any very hard wearing tyre.

I would go with 28mm Gatorskins.

I have ridden Vitoria Rubino Pros on my training bike for years. Done about 7,000 Kms on a set and had 0 punctures in that time. Don't cost much either.

The grip is pretty good, I am sure there probably are better gripping tyres but I have never had an off.

Only time I have lost traction is out of the saddle efforts on steep wet hills but that is likely to happen with any tyre.

conti 4seasons if you want grip and supple ride

They dont last too long, I reckon 2-3000 thousand miles for the front and 1500-2000 miles for the rear, actually that's not too bad

Another vote for Durano Plus here .

I rarely get punctures & i'm a big lump too.

I have them on all 3 of my bikes.

I have 700x25c GP4Seasons on my commuter and they're fricken awesome! They also measure 27mm across on the Fulcrum Racing 5s. I used to run 700x35c Schwalbe Marathon on this bike... They'll survive a nuclear war followed by a zombie apocalypse but they also double the weight of the bike!!! (this may or may not be a slight exaggeration)

My only issue with the Durano Plus Performance tyres is that my average speed drops by 1.5mph! Admittedly I'm going from Michelin Power Competition tyres on Shimano RS80 wheels to those Durano tyres on a rather old set of Fulcrum Racing 7s......how much of the speed is related to the tyres, and how much to the wheels I'm not sure! They are extremely great for puncture protection though.

Cheers guys, really useful real life insights.
I think on balance, I am going to get a pair of 4 seasons. I understand they will wear quicker than the Schwalbes and probably not be quite as puncture resistance, but with the cold weather grip and lower RR, I will take my chance.
If I start suffering punctures in the winter, I can get the Schwalbes, and then the 4 seasons can go back on in the spring.
Now, the only remaining choice is 28 or 32's. I don't do any gravel paths as such, but I am tempted by the extra cushioning for the horrid Potholed roads around here?

Have gp4s in 28 on one of my bikes, was happy with them however now I have ridden some 35's one my other bike I would be tempted to step up to the gp4s in 32 next time I get some, the 35s I run are much easier on your backside
