Hmmm? Seems the judicial system sometimes actually does work then...

http://road.cc/content/news/229239-dangerous-drive...

...two months jail time and a driving ban of over two years. Seems fair, in the circumstances. Hopefully the cyclist who he hit made a full recovery.

Someone will be along to blame the cyclist in a minute,

It will be a “I don’t agree with what this guy did but cyclists are sometimes asking for it” type comment.

Not really, have you ever heard a cyclist say "please hit me with your car"?

Cyclists are never asking for 'it' unless 'it' is a nice slice of cake and a coffee...

There are a lot of nutters about, but to hit a cyclist with his car is so stupid it's beyond words. Got what he deserves

i live close to there, the roads are great but there are so many car drivers who don't know how to handle a bunch of cyclists. I also think the cyclists when not bunched up into groups can cause it harder to overtake cleanly, though not condoning the accidents, it is something i see all the time on the country roads.

No they're not. Not ever.

Yes there's a few idiots but they are small minority.

I'm a high mileage driver and an occasional cyclist, and the way many motorists treat cyclists on the road is appalling. I'm sorry, but it has to be said. I see far more of that behaviour than I do bad behaviour from cyclists.

He really did lose the plot
article said:
A local cycling club, CC Giro, were riding two abreast when Rafferty drove up behind.

Peter Bettany, prosecuting, told Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court: "The defendant started to sound his horn for long periods, tried to pull past them and swerved into them on three occasions, deliberately squirting his screen wash as he did so and showering the cyclist.
Hopeless statement - we want to know for how long smash
3 seconds 3 minutes?

...it's just a bit of typical PH humour.

...is what worries me most.

That Fixie riding knobhead killed that poor woman, but ultimately that was an accident. An avoidable one, and a disgraceful attitude from the cyclist in that case, but perhaps no different to some knobhead driver using "the sun was in my eyes" to excuse them "ploughing into" a cyclist and killing them as they "raced along" a dual carriageway at 70 mph.

This though, is a case where a driver deliberately aimed his car repeatedly at riders in an intimidatory fashion, and eventually made contact with a rider. The contact was made AFTER he had passed the group too. So instead of getting a move on after passing, it sounds to me like this man who was, after all, in such a terrible hurry to get past, hung around to be caught by one of the group. You would assume that the oh-so-righteous journalists at the Daily Mail would pounce on this story and call for the head of the driver to be displayed on a spike outside The Tower. But no.

This story needs to be brought to the attention of the wider public. The driver's behaviour is typical of many I've encountered on the roads, where some inept halfwit who probably ought not to be allowed to drive a motor vehicle makes a meal out of passing me (solo, not even a group) yet when they get a chance to pass cleanly, instead of just getting on with it they draw up alongside and give me a critique on my riding. I mean seriously? There they are telling me how I'm some kind of pervert for wearing Lycra, casting aspersions on my parentage, and generally abusing me for "holding them up". Then they hold themselves up by hanging around alongside me when the road ahead is clear...

confused

It's why I'm often not very charitable to cyclist hating brain dead morons on a lot of PH threads. As for these inept drivers, the only thing I could realistically do differently is to not ride my bike on the roads. But that's not going to be a choice I'm willing to make anytime soon.

I agree completely with Yellowjack. My non cycling friends just don't believe that people drive their cars like this, but I see it pretty regularly.

Bumping the thread a bit but yesterday really pissed me off.

On two occasions my mate and myself had drivers miss us by inches whilst blasting their horns. Both times they had loads of road space to pass us and a good 300 yards or so of quiet country road visibility. The usual coffee bean shake was given as well just in case.

I'm waiting for one to have the actual bks to stop and get out their car - I actually wish one would to be honest but deep down you know they're pussies. Just venting, there's not much to add apart from the obvious that there are some right dheads out there and this isn't news but some people should be sent to the front with nothing but a high viz bulls eye Tee Shirt to help the enemy do us a favour.

rant over.
