Kill a cyclist, get a rap on the knuckles
Discussion
FFS! You really couldn't make it up, this sentencing is pathetic. If you killed someone by any other manner you'd be in the clink, but don't look where you going in a car and no problem...

Judging from the defence barristers "closing statement" (Where he lied and made out that the highway code said cyclists should wear bright clothing)
If I was the family of the deceased, I'd be making sure he received some retribution for that! Probably at the front of a Transit!
Then I would be finding the Zafira driver...

I've cycled past that junction quite a few times -
Notoriously dangerous and this isn't the first fatal accident to happen at that crossroad.
Out of everywhere I've cycled in Western Europe the UK feels the least safe to cycle - Germany is probably the best/safest and I wish UK drivers behaved the same as the Germans

That is almost what the Highway Code says, isn't it?Highway Code said:
Rule 59. Clothing.
You should wear [...] light-coloured or fluorescent clothing which helps other road users to see you in daylight and poor light.

The article said:
Parekh ... admitted causing Mr Dix's death by careless driving
...sentenced to an eight-month prison sentence, which will be suspended for two years, and ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work.
He was also disqualified from driving for three years, after which he must take an extended retest.

Looks to be quite a long way up the range of sentencing available to the judge.

Well I couldn't find the closing statement in the línk, but did the article anwhere said he didnt wear light coloured or fluorescent clothing just asking.
No, it doesn't. I don't know what clothes the victim was wearing, although it seems unlikely the defendant's lawyer would have mentioned the Highway Code rule if the victim was in fact wearing the recommended clothes.Runes said:

To shift blame onto the cyclist and away from the driver who failed to give way.
I guess he's the type to say she got raped because she was wearing a skirt
