I see there are reports of the Skeleton Bob folk using GB Cycling tech in their skinsuits, and I read somewhere that they are also using Graphene in the sleds too.

I'm interested in the tech side of all this, and cycling, so this forum seemed like a good place to have a little discussion.

Has anyone come across any good articles to have a bit of a read?

Also, is there a good reason why the Skeleton team seems well funded, and the Luge team seem to be doing very well as essentially self funded athletes with only one board. (The pundits were saying how the ice doesn't suit their boards / runners, which they only have one of.)

I would have thought there are funding differences based on past performance, but also that the two disciplines are close enough that they should be run together.

Any thoughts?

Not related to the tech stuff, but my understanding of the funding mechanism is that GB will fund success. So we have some history with the bob, and that gets money, i.e. coaches etc, but not so much in the teatray events. Bring home a medal, and there will be money for the next four years, sort of thing. I suspect borrowing coaches for a different event would be frowned on, not least by the bob teams with very little funding compared to the jumping sorts in the warm olympics.

Wonder how many of the team have asthma? Or are they not borrowing that line from TeamGB cycling?

Under Armour had some help from Specialized and used their wind tunnel to develop a speed skating suit....

There's a decent feature on some of the bobsledders and how they train in one of the Guy Martin Speed programmes - I think it's the one where he bins the gravity racer.
