I have gathered almost all the parts needed to build a new MTB. The only issue is I've had them so long it might be worth upgrading lol.

A few years ago I bought a used Da Bomb frame, which I had powder coated and has since been in storage. I want to build the bike up but the rear hanger has seen better days and I'm now finding it impossible to get hold of a new one. It's usable but I just want everything looking fresh.

So I got thinking, if the existing hanger completely breaks I'm stuffed. Is it worth buying a new frame just for peace of mind? I don't want to spend a lot either. And will a new frame be better than something 10+ years old? The frame I have is quite light but is meant for 26" wheels and has a 1 1/8" steerer tube which is old hat.

Considering stuff like the Brand X HT-01 frame CRC sell new for £112 and other than 135mm rear spacing is bang up to date geometry wise, tapered head tube and not got too low a B.B. so could be used 26” or 650b wheels, I’d build on that instead and put the old frame on eBay.

26” and 1 1/8th steerer tube stuff is pretty cheap these days, you could look at a Cotic BFe or Stanton slackline for instance.

If you buy a new frame, I’d recommend buying something with a tapered headtube. You can use your current fork with a reducer headset but it will give you fork options in the future. Try and find something with a 30.9 seatpost or larger as well so you can get a dropper in there in the future too.

Thanks. I was looking at those Chinese carbon frames, I can bag one for around £200! Since I probably need new wheels it could be time to make a jump to 27.5 or 29?

The question is, would my existing components fit? They're a mix of Shimano zee, saint, and xt. Oh and I've got a single oval chainring. The main thing that concerns me is would the BB fit? I see there's a lot of different standards.

Just back to the original point - I would be quite, quite confident that the hangar on your da-bomb frame will be one of the various generic types available cheaply and easily. The key is knowing what your looking for.

A good bike shop should have a big reference guide, alternatively some where like BETD components has a good visual guide.

Just to check - don't bother looking for a 'da bomb' hangar etc, its a generic thing you need to look for. Often they are referred to as A type, B type, C type etc.

Speak to BETD they literally have every hangar, and if they dont they usually make it and add it to the catalog.CNC machined as well rather than cast.

Is it an adaptor plate rather than a hanger? It looks like its a horizontal dropout, If it is horizontal you may be able to use something like this instead?

Correct. It's a horizontal dropout.
