Insurance taking your bike abroad
Discussion
Hello all,
Me and the Mrs are due to take our bikes to Majorca in 2 weeks time. Both bikes cost around 1k.
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction regarding insurance. Mostly concerned about the bikes being damaged during transit.
Can anyone recommend good companies?
There for 11 nights. Just pleasure riding around the island.
TIA

I use PedalCover for my home & bike insurance. I've not tried a travel only quote with them but they recently started offering it; https://pedalcover.co.uk/cycling-travel-insurance-...
I have made a claim on my policy for the bike after a hit and run and they dealt with it pretty well, no real problems but their communication is a little lacking as they are a small company. I'd still recommend them though.

I've got "extra" cover with our Aviva home and contents insurer; according to the policy it covers our bikes at home as well as out and about - including abroad. It's curiously cheap and you just pay for the most expensive bike so it's £26 for a pair of £1600 ebikes (plus a couple of £1000 bikes).
As I'm taking these abroad (by car) I guess it could be worth checking just how extensive the cover actually is.

My contents cover (Admiral) were vague about it when I asked if they'd cover the bikes abroad. The guy in the call centre said "should do, it counts as away from home" which didn't exactly fill me with confidence.I have made a claim on my policy for the bike after a hit and run and they dealt with it pretty well, no real problems but their communication is a little lacking as they are a small company. So I looked into additional cover
Pedal covers travel insuance is only that. Travel insurance. It WONT cover the bike for theft. I tweeted them a while back to ask the question. Apparently "in the future"
Yellow Jersey seem to be the only people currently offering bike theft cover when abroad. It's in their short term policies. But for me at least it's not that cheap. Circa £100 for a total value of £4K (with a wetsuit and bike box covered) for a 5 day trip! Still going to take it as its cheaper than the alternative
Yep Pedalcover here. They beat my last quote and covered all my bikes wherever they are and however they are stolen/damaged.
