Last week I bought a Quarq DZero Power meter, which has been on the bike a few days now. So far I have given it 3 proper rides including an FTP test. I can now see how training with a power meter could become addictive...

Just wondering what people use for analysing power data from rides?

I currently use the basic Strava and have been looking at the ride data using Garmin Connect. Apart from Garmin I also use Strava (basic), is it worth paying for Strava Premium and does Strava Premium provide anythin extra over the Garmin site?

Would something else be better such as "Golden Cheetah" which I have seen mentioned on a couple of sites along with "Training Peaks".

Try wattsboard. It takes your power data and converts it to TSS, which means you can then plan your weeks by training load and see your stress, accumulated fitness etc. If you don't have a power meter (or if yours is broken like mine) then it can do a less accurate guesstimate of stress based on your heart rate data.

Free version works on 60 days worth of data, paid version ($5 per month) works on data from all time. It syncs the rides directly from Strava.

I started using it in March and it's really changed how I approach riding and I've got much fitter as a result.

If you do any indoor training as well then Trainerroad has just launched a feature for analysing outdoor rides alongside the indoor training part, with TSS calculations etc.

Wouldn't get it just for that though.

Training Peaks for me

Training Peaks, with Trainerroad packages / coach over winter for the Wattbike.

That said, I'm looking at Xert which runs a differing set of algorithms and effectively works out FTP on the move. FTP is fine but it can be a one size fits all, and will vary depending on what you use to calculate it. On my Wattbike an FTP session will read around 30 or even 30 watts less than the typical 20 minute sustained effort outside on the road.

Have a read of Andrew Coggan's Training wth a Powermeter - excellent book, and also some of the the stuff on the GCN website / Youtube.

but yeah, start out with Training Peaks - it's reasonably intuitive.

What are you hoping to analyse? Training Peaks is good for general training planning and seeing metrics over time. In terms of data from a ride it doesn't offer that much analysis that you don't already get from Garmin Connect.

If you really want to start digging into detail of each ride and power curves then WKO4 is what you need.

I've now got a basic Training Peaks account and the ride analysis there seems good enough for me. Thanks for the recommendation!
