Hello all - just wanted to share news of a mountainbike event I'm doing this Saturday that I thought people might be interested in. It's in France, called the Santé-Lyon VTT, and runs 71km off-road from Saint-Etienne to Lyon leaving at 20.30 on Saturday night. So basically you ride the first hour and a half in relative daylight and then it's a night-ride.

It's quite a new event, and includes a race category, an electrically-assisted mountainbike race category, and a regular fun ride, which is what I'm doing with my mates. It traces the route of the famous Santé-Lyon trail runner race, which happens around 21st December every year, and is one of the most popular and most hardcore running races in France.

I'll post some pics when it's over. They have 1,800 riders signed up apparently. Last year the winning non-electric racer on the 71km course completed it in about 3hrs15mins, which is going some, while the slowest took 8hrs30mins (so he enjoyed the sunrise as well as the sunset).

Here's a link (French only) http://www.stlvtt.com. There are still places available, apparently.

Mr Ted

Looks like a great adventure, having competed in a few MCC events (Exeter and Lands End Trials) there is something quite surreal about being off-road in the dark
