Hi all,
I see that Aldi are holding their yearly bike event. As a newbie to road / hybrid cycling, is there anything worth picking up? Was looking at a bike stand they have advertised and possible some much required padded shorts along with 'Muc Off' cleaning gear. Worth the purchase or a load of garbage? From 9th May.

Do they sell their folding bike lock in the UK?
That's always a top seller over here, it's about a fifth the price of the equivalent from Abus.
I've bought their lights before which have been fine until the kids smash them up.
I never bother with Muck-Off or the like, just make your own with an old spray bottle and some diluted APC.
Aldi chain lube is alright and they've sold WD-40 at a massive discount compared to the homeware stores.

Ive bought quite a lot of Crane cycling stuff over the years, it varies. The padded shorts seem ok as a noob, but when you've worn some decent ones you realise the Crane ones are crap. On the other hand, I bought a pair of full-finger padded gloves for ~£5 and, apart from the name logo, they are EXACTLY the same as the £30 pair of Endura gloves... I mean, exactly - right down to the stitching and pads.
Also, years ago for £16 I bought a softshell jacket - its not some technical masterpiece with the latest nano-fibres and unicorn eyelash stitching, but bugger me its warm. So much so, I wont wear it until the temp is about 2c or less.
As far as I can see their muc-off "4-in-1" dry oil is the same as regular muc-off dry lube, so i'll get that - and some GT85 as that's usually cheap.

Bike stand, skull cap and thats it IMO. I wouldn't bother with anything else. I have tried a couple of items of their clothing and I just wouldn't bother. I sent them straight back again. Spend a bit extra and get the DHB stuff from Wiggle or maybe the Planet X stuff (What ever brand they are peddling)

Decathlon is also a good place for cheap kit.
I can't access a product list yet, it's just showing as "coming soon" on the Aldi website. I'm in need of a few bits and pieces so I hope to get there on Thursday to take a look this time. Last time Aldi/Lidl had a bike event I missed out on it, and there was only a load of tat on extreme sizes left.
Gloves and socks are a good bet, and my son commutes with a set of (Moon knock-off) usb rechargeable lights which have been good value. The only thing I'd say to stay clear of are shorts/leggings to be honest. It's really hard to guesstimate which size you'll need, and buying the wrong ones can lead to a great deal of discomfort.
I've just worn out the palms of a pair of mitts I've been wearing as summer gloves for a couple of years, with 600+ miles in the last two weeks to put them over the edge. I've got a spare pair in my kit box to wear immediately but want to make sure I replace the spares.Socks too, if they have them again. I thought they were a bit of a gimmick when I bought my first pair (further reduced a week or so after the event) but they're really comfy and well worth a punt for a couple of quid.

Sadly, those electric bikes and the turbo-trainer are listed as "online exclusive" and "sold out" though. I might have a look in if i can remember tomorrow. Probably a pair of gloves/mitts and maybe a vest. The bike storage ideas (ceiling hoist and folding wall rack) are interesting, but the deal is a couple of weeks too early for me, as I'm moving house and I'm a) short of cash to buy now, and b) not sure what will fit where in the new shed & garage.
I've not been in to see what they had. Too busy with house move stuff really, and no sense in buying stuff only to have to pack it up to move down. Hopefully, if I'm a good boy, my wife will let me have some of the money we're due from the sale of our house to blow on some nice Assos (or similar) kit, and some Conti GP 5000 tyres, instead of her wasting it on sorting out the plumbing and electrics in our new, smaller home...

Yup, just received mine (it's still available) and it's wayyyy sturdier than I expected. I was expecting aluminium but it's all steel - the tubes are huge.I just wish they would reintroduce their MTB backpacks - they were fantastic! £15 / £20(ish) and it came with a bladder and more waterproof than a £100 Alpinestar backpack!
