After a few years away, I'm looking at getting a new bike on the Cycle2Work scheme for winter duties

Either Canyon Endurace CFSLX 7 or Trek Domane (105, Di2)

Looks as though the Trek can take full mudguards but it's unclear on the Canyon.
I've had various Trek models before and my favourite ever bike is a Trek Emonda so I do like the brand.

Any thoughts on either - I've been out of the cycling scene for a few years but keen to get going again.

The bike would be mainly wet weather / winter use as I've got a really nice Orbea Orca OMX for summer..

Thanks all

Factors I'd be considering:

Which one comes with better components? Are they both equally easy to service? Cables routed through headsets/press fit BB etc.

This...

Consider what (if anything) you would like upgraded on both bikes. When I bought a Canyon Ultimate CF-SLX in 2019 it came with a carbon aero handlebars, Reynolds AR carbon wheels fitted with Continelay GP5000 tyres and a carbon seatpost - all other brands I considered at similar price came with basic handlebars, wheels, tyres etc. so would have needed at least £1500 of upgrades to match the spec of the Canyon.

As well components, which one fits better, or needs the least tweaking to be comfortable? I had a Trek Domane (and a few others) on my list a couple of years ago, but for the money, its spec and fit was outdone by Giant. So that’s what I bought.

Was was riding my Canyon Endurace yesterday with my cycling buddy who also has one and we over took a group one of whom was riding a Trek Domane.

From this detailed analysis we can assume the Canyon is clearly the faster bike.

That's the analysis I like....

Domane is edging it at the moment due to mudguard eyelets.

Mudguards just make your bike heavier and us Canyon riders enjoy getting covered in st anyway, part of our natural manliness.

Where will you be riding? if looking for a winter bike maybe a gravel bike on the racier end of the scale would be more suitable? If you arent worried about speed go full gravel and expand what you can ride on. Winter on the roads can be quite miserable whereas your local trails and bridleways will be mucky but much safer and fun.

I’ve been riding a domane for the last 3 years now, and went for it as I needed a bike to commute to work on. I was originally going for the emonda, but decided I wanted a bit more comfort and mudguard mounts for when the weather took a turn for the worse.

I’ve never had mudguards fitted to a bike, but they are by far one of the best things I have ever bought for a bike. The domane isn’t the most exciting or reactive of bikes, but it can hold its own and is plenty quick enough, just a little bit heavy compared to its competitors.

I have recently bought a new set of wheels for it, and they have changed how the bike feels. I use the old wheels with a set of 35mm gravel tyres and the domane can also handled gravel rides.

It'll be 99% road use and just for wet rides.

I've put a deposit on a 2026 Domane at a local shop, 105 Di2.

Went to see the Trek and I've gone ahead with it

Looks great, fits great. It'll be a great bike for Winter and will probably see some summer rides too.

Need to work out what to do with my old crumbly Kinesis (with Di2 and Chris King wheels FFS). The wheels are about dead but I'll salvage the hubs and have them as ornaments in the office

Just to put a close on this. Had originally ordered the bike through a LBS for £3,900 on C2W.

Have subsequently found the same bike for £2,800, which after C2W discounts is costing me around £1,800.

After speaking to a mate who knows the industry, apparently Trek were overstocked. They sent bikes to LBS' but then offered discounts to clear the stock through.

Just need to wait for the voucher now..

Thanks for the tip. I’ve just bought a Trek too, it seemed like a good deal and they seem to be selling quickly.
