Hi all,

I’m not being stupid here right, this chain is incorrectly routed through this cage on the rear mech?

It’s my lads bike, and I’ve just noticed this! He’s had it ages!

Looks fine to me but if it’s making a racket it might be due to the chain being one tooth out on the jockey wheels (on more modern bikes the jockey wheels and chain are thick/thin to grip onto the chains thick/thin arrangement of inner and outer parts

It is making a racket…

It’s the top image where you see the chain goes under the little plate on the cage, is that a correct way to route on some mech’s? All my others go above it.

You are correct, the chain should be the other side of that little piece on the cage. You should be able to just undo one of the small bolts on the back of the cage holding the bottom jockey wheel and move the chain.

If you are talking about the highlighted bit then the chain should not be in contact with it. The chain should go between the jockey wheels and the plate should just be there to prevent the chain making contact with itself as it charges direct when in the smallest cog

Thanks all! That’s what I thought! Thanks for flagging about removing the jockey wheel to reposition, I was going to buy a quick link too to break the chain, but that seems easier!
