any info on insuring a road bike

have recieved stupid quotes for a Colnago C50 ........CTC wanted over 700quid !!

its a 2006 model with Hyperon ultra wheels was 7k in 2006 guessing second hand value on the bike around 2k or 7k to replace like for like

Marks and Spencers. 4k single item limit for unspecified items. Above 4k and you need to record them and prove it with receipts etc

thats the problem ive found most household insurance is only up to 4k ,



no problem for reciepts it was bought from Dauphins in Surrey

Maybe you'll just have to off set the risk and accept the 4K max on a household policy. I've done this, my MTB is probably 3k to replace but I have opted for 2K insurance to keep the cost down. My thinking is I never let the bike out of my sight when I'm out riding and it is locked securely away at home. So the likely hood of it being nicked is low and I would get something if the worse did happen.

M&S are really good, and a friend who had his garage cleared out has got some very nice replacements, no hassles at all. BUT, now M&S don't want to know him, have doubled his premiums and will insure to a max of £1k from now on. Needless to say he's gone elsewhere. Generally premiums seem to be about 10%, which seems pretty high to me considering there isn't a 10% risk of my bikes going walkies.

in my experience most cycle specific insurance is 10% of the value of the bike PA. Which is ridiculous.

Declaring it on your household insurance is the way forward, and as mentioned above M&S are excellent for this.
