Toying with racing again

As above. I gained my 3rd cat a few years ago (2011) but have not renewed race license since. If I race I would purchase a day license, but can I race 4th or would I have to enter the 3rd cat race?

Is that right? Some of the old obiwan racers in my club let their licences lapse and go out in 4th cat races on a day licence to help the newbies learn the ropes. If you are only on a day licence then how would anyone know? Our chaps don't contest the sprints, leaving it to the 'proper' 4th cats, which seems the right way to go about it.

I have never heard of anyone who actually WANTS to race with the 4ths before! Rather you than me.

Just go to the category that you belong in, the standard isn't much different anyway
