I'm probably showing my ignorance here.

All my gears shift easily / accurately apart from 2 in the middle range (rear cassette). Shifting higher is normally no problem, but they do not go straight in when shifting lower - taking 2-3+ pedal rotations before shifting.

The bike is only 5 weeks old. Am I right thinking it is probably cable stretch?

How do I correct this?

Unscrew the barrel adjuster on the rear (right) shifter by about 1/4 turn (to take up a minute amount of slack) and see how it goes.

We are talking the shifter on the bars, not the rear mech????

I think you can use either, but the adjuster at the shifter end of the cable will only work when you take the tension out of the cable by dropping into the highest gear: the idea though is that you can adjust as you're riding along, so you don't have to keep jumping on and off.

I've always found the adjuster at the shifter to work fine in any gear even when pedalling along.

OP if the bike is only 5 weeks old I suspect (and hope) that the shop will happily show you how to adjust it so pop back in and let the Pros check all the alignments out for you whilst you watch!!
