Tandems..... (stop laughing)

Anyone ever tried riding a tandem solo? No idea why, but I quite fancied one for novelty value. They seem to go for about 150-200 nicker on ebay so if no-one else has tried it I'll buy one and assuming I don't break both my arms, will make an effort to write about how great/terrible they are for the amusement of the masses.

I would guess that weight transfer under braking would be your biggest problem.

Brilliant form of transport and no problem to ride solo. Having said that, with the addition of the rear rider - a serious quick machine.

I did the downhill course on a tandem at the Malvern Classic when it was still an event.

Oh yes, they can be a giggle, just remember the length on corners And that you havent as much weight on the back proportionally as you normally have.

Let me get this right, a toy that can do brilliant back wheel skids and has an excuse to not turn right at mini rounabouts properly. Cheers lads, you've got me convinced.

Tandems are a hoot My mate used to have a "mountain bike" one which we decided to take down a few trails. I've never been so scared or laughed so hard in my life. Sitting on the back seat going down a trail is a experiance.

my dad built a tandem a few years back, a briliant bit of kit.

he also built one of them low rider type things with the pedals out in front and the big long handle bars. i will try and find some pics if i can.

Have a mtb tandem I ride wi the other half. The times when I've ridden it solo it feels seriously wierd with no one one the back. Ok once you get used to it. As you say back whell locks v easily when no one is sat over it.

Probably a bit of a waste of money unless you've got a regular partner - tho' buying a cheap one, doing a trip and then eBaying it could make sense.

Make sure the brakes work.
