Refreshing brake pads

I seem to have contaminated my brake pads with GT85 lube, rather than replace the pads is it possible to clean them up with sand paper or wirewool?

I've heard putting them in the oven can help remove any contamination, does this work?

The brakes are Avid Juicy 3's.

Try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol....or gin

The lube would have soaked in so rubbing off a few layers won't help in anyway. Oil on the pads or rotor will severely reduce the braking quality.

I'd get some new pads.

Heating contaminated pads does work abit, but it'll never remove all the oil.

Buy some new pads and clean your discs with some isoprol alcohol.

If you do try heating them keep the temp low or you run the risk of breaking the bond between the friction material and the backing plate.

Best idea is to get new pads, alcohol won't be able to remove all of the oil that's soaked in.

You could try soaking them in a sealed jar with some isoprol or panel wipe but it's best just to change them for new ones. I can recommend the A2Z pads from the Woolly Hat Shop. Hard wearing and good stopping power ant about £10ish. I've used them in my Sevens without issue.
