Main Event and Carl Cox Challenge
Discussion
I'll be crewing at this weekend's events with Jere Rantaneimi on PM1 (ProMod). If anyone is coming please stop by to say hello and I'll show you around. Just look for the orange ProMod and ask for Max. We had a tough Doorslammers but overcame a lot of issues to run a 5.84 test pass so we can speed up from there.

It is 8.6l with twin 88mm turbos running on methanol, putting out c. 3,600hp.

Ahh only just seen this dam , came up for the day today
That car is one amazing car the build quality looks amazing when I was looking around it and you were /are running great consistent times .
Shame I missed this tx I would of loved to be a bit more nosy, have a great day tomorrow 👍👍

Shame to miss people but we were busy! 3 events and 18 runs over 10 days.
Doorslammers was tough - we had a few changes to the car and suffered badly from shake, plus a full transmission rebuild. We went out in the 1st round with shake, but ran an 5.845 later in testing.
The Carl Cox Challenge was great with overall win, lowest ET and highest speed to take maximum points - and the money!
The FIA was hard with breakages and crazy heat. We had a broken valve spring blast through a filter and into the oil pump on Sunday so it was a very late night full strip and rebuild. We qualified 3rd on 5.83 earlier. We got to the semi finals when we had a spark plug core come adrift, exit the chamber and wedge one of the the wastegates open so just lost over the line after leading at the 1000'.
We'll be back in September for the final Carl Cox round and the FIA Finals so hope to see some PHers then.

It's that time again - Carl Cox followed by the Finals, I'm heading up to the Pod tomorrow and the team fly in early evening. We took the truck stright there after Hockenheim and the car is fully serviced, so ready to run at 11.00 on Wednesday. We'll have to do a full engine strip on Thursday evening as the conrods will be end-of-life with 25 runs on them by then. We did also over-reved at Hockenheim, had tyre-spin through the line at 254mph so hit 10,400 rpm! It will be good to change them before we really lean on it - looking for 5.7s again. Look forward to seeing any of you who are attending.
Pic for attention - just before Q1 at the Nitrolympix.

I popped my cherry at Santa Pod on Saturday. I was asked by a friend months ago if I would like to come along and I said yes. The last week have been thinking about rednecks and mullets.
Had a read up online, packed a backpack of stuff including a sitmat and earplugs.
So:
Entry and parking - well organised and efficient - they should tell people to download tickets to their phones as signal is bad for some with so many on site.
Mullets and rednecks - mainly white working class folk, only spotted about a dozen ethnics.
Fishing chairs and trolleys - the smart people have these for the banking and for their beers! My 'arris was sore after 30mins on the simat.
Food - Decent choice and relatively well priced for an event. £12 for a tub of salt and pepper fries and chicken.
Merch - seems to attract a loyal following who wear a lot of Santa Pod merch. Favourite was the hoodie worn by a girl that said: "Drag racing makes me moist"
Other merch - lots of redneck merch
Pitlane - nice to be able to wander and talk to people.
The racing - I enjoyed it - the noise, the speed, the smell. Monster Truck was a little meh, stunt riding and driving very good.
Would I go again? Maybe every few years. It's not my thang, but I can see how it appeals to others.

Glad to hear a few of you made it over the weekend. We had an incredibly tough event, ending in P2 in the championship unable to fight any further due to the rain. It started with the rest of the team being stranded in Helsinki with the flight control fiasco. They eventually arrived at 02.00 on Thursday morning so we set up the pit immediately the car travels upstairs in the truck (behind the sauna) so we need it out to fold down the crew bunks. We then changed the torque converter, finishing at 05.30. This all meant we missed day 1 of the Carl Cox event so didn t qualify.
Thursday we managed 2 test runs. A safe 5.83 at 249mph in the morning, then tyre shake in the next run so only 5.9. We stripped the transmission to change a few broken and bent parts.
Friday was day 1 of the FIA event. We started with a safe 5.82 at only 240mph as it got out of shape at the top end for P2. Q2 was in the dark with great air (more power) and we ran 5.79 at 249mph - and were beaten by Arnover, our title rival with a 5.78. Finished in P3 after Tooren s 5.74 run.
Q3 on Saturday saw a 5.89 at 237mph with major damage at around 1100' . We dropped an exhaust valve at 9,600rpm and destroyed everything in cylinder 7. Stripping showed the spring top seat had failed. The debris also destroyed the turbo on that side. With no spare head we decided to repair. Few believed we could do it in time to race....

Note the missing centre of the spring cap

The head was welded and a new guide fitted. After an appeal we found a head specialist in Luton who said he would cut the valve seats. We got to him at 22.20 and left at 02.20. Incredibly his girlfriend also fed us - amazing people! We bored out and fitted a new inlet seat, recut the exhaust seat (it was dented),restored the plug thread and re-cut the fire-ring groove. We got back to the pit at 03.20 and got to work on smoothing the ports and building it up. The rest of the motor was already rebuilt with a new liner and piston in 7, plus all new conrods, etc. It was completed at 06.00. We fired up around 10.00 (no rush with the rain) to huge applause.

Welded

Machining at 01.30

Starting to sort the damaged inlet seat

Repaired - pressure tested, cleaned and built-up

Refitted at 04.40!
We won E1 with a 5.85 at 247mph. All checked out OK but rain stopped play when we were in the pairing lanes so we ended up P2 for 2026. On to Tierp in Sweden next weekend for the EDRS Finals. The team are sitting out next year as our chief mechanic is doing national service and everyone needs a break. I'll probably be with the Hammer Motorsport team with their supercharged Corvette to keep me busy.
