noted the news on Eurodragster that my old pal John Price is hanging the mike up after this weekends event. He is an exceptional character and my time working with him many years ago were great so on behalf of all racing fans, good luck to you John you will be sorely missed by all at the race tracks

I'd like to second all that, Johns voice and style are a big part of a weekend at Santa Pod for me and it won't be quite the same without him, all the best to you John, you will definately be missed by everyone.

Bring on those Hot Rods!

Hear Hear Steve, John was the inspiration for me to have a go at commentary when I used to go to SPR as a punter all those years ago. "I'd love to do that" I thought to myself and it was truly an honour (a nerve racking one at that !) to be given the opportunity work alongside him at Shakespeare County Raceway.

Without knowing it he taught me to talk to the folks in the stands that may have never seen drag racing and didn't know what the heck they were looking at (at the risk of peeing off the folk that knew exactly what was going on) especially the Super and ET classes, so thanks for that John.

He'll always be the guv'nor to me and definitely way up there with Steve Evans, Bob Frey and Alan Reinhardt amongst my favourite track announcers. Good luck my friend, watch your daughter grow, enjoy your life, friends and family, I owe you ! John Price, a top bloke and truly The Voice of European Drag Racing.

John truly is the voice of Santa Pod to me and I hope he will make occasional guest appearances but I can entirely understand why he wants to stop, relax and spend time with his family.

Some people may wonder why he seems to say the same stuff every race meeting - the answer is above: He is talking to the people in the stands who may not know what is going on. If you already know then congratulations, but he has to make it accessible to the newcomer.

Lets hope this weekend is a great send off for him.

Graham Beckwith does a grand job too, someone who sits as well with him as Pricey does will be a challenge but hopefully someone as eqully talented will come along.

Paul Venners gets my vote.
He has the ability to take the proverbial p*ss, without being offensive.

Couldn't agree more. He's excellent at all the Pod life style events such as Bug Jam, USC etc.

I personally think john is to old and somebody a lot younger should take over as he was starting to slur and others have said there was a smell of pee in the tower.

Just heard on Nitro FM Graham is leaving at the end of the season too, so it looks like we'll need an ITV style reality TV show to choose the new voice of Santa Pod.

Graham Beckwith has also announced that he is to retire from commentating. His last event as an SPR commentator will be the UK National Finals in a few weeks' time.
