Entry fee's for racers 2009
Discussion
You could think about getting in touch with Paula Marshall at SPRC and voicing your concerns to her. APIRA and SPRC will be having one or two inter-club meetings before the Riders' and Drivers' Meeting in February and they will be discussing entry fees at those meetings before they are announced at the R&D, at which point they're done and dusted. If you say something to the Clubs beforehand then it's on record that someone has raised the issue.
Edit: before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusion and starts mischief-making, can I please draw your attention to the lack of the word "fat" in Andrew's posting above

The word "CURRY" was also not used Tog. But is this a new version of guess who it is? :-)

The tracks have had a pretty bad year as well you cant really ask them to reduce their cost further and still hold decent meetings as it is i expect they will have to make budget cuts.
The electric hook up is a seperate issue and i can see why people are upset about that i know i would be but thats all i can say about that
I'd look at it as an investment in the future of British Drag racing

I beleive his suggestion was to freeze the entry cost, ie no annual rise. The electric hook up is a seperate issue and i can see why people are upset about that i know i would be but thats all i can say about that

Electric hook up is a mixed bag for me. It's not an investment in the future as it's only a contracted temporary set up. Installing it properly and having mains would be investment and I dare say a damnsight cheaper for racers as well but with the pits all relaid etc, that'll never happen. The leccy is great for 4 day meetings, but it makes the entry too high for 2 day meetings where potentially the amount of racing (weather affected or sheer volume of classes) doesn't warrant the outlay to attend.
Anyway most of thats irrelevant for me now, I'm having to take a forced year out as I simply cannot afford to run the car this season. Mrs has been made redundant thanks to the finance industy crashing, joint income is down 20% and everything else has gone up, no racing for me.
A cap on entry costs would be handy, but realistically, I cant see it happening. Not because SPRC wouldn't want to help us out when we're feeling the pinch, but they would be incurring the financial issues on our behalf.
Nothing stands still, and everyone and everything is affected by the economic climate. Until the Thunderball entry list is released, I don't think anyone will really know if the current climate has affected the sport as badly as we're led to believe.
My 2p worth is that it wont, in so much as a large percentage of us go racing to escape from the harsh reality of the real world. Some of us would simply give up eating if it meant it allowed us to go racing.
Certainly at the moment, those upgrading, updating or building cars and parts, are suffering due to the exchange rate being shockingly bad for the UK, and it doesn't appear to be doing a U-turn just yet. FWIW, I've delayed buying every single thing I'd intended to, until the end of February, in the hope that things have come around by then (I imagine once Mr. Obama's in office officially, things might settle down...as they do).
What a difference a year makes. The point to remember, is that people aren't necessarily out of racer funds, they're just analysing what really needs spending, and none of us go racing for financial gain, so if needs must, you stay at home...
and watch Top Gear on Dave, or Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, or Captain Scarlet, though I really do still prefer Thunderbirds.

Thing is jon iff obama sorts it out,as you put ,the dollar will get stronger and worse for us rate wise.It is percieved by the rest of the world that usa can recover from this financial mess better than us ,so there is slightly more confidence in the dollar than sterling,So what you want is for obama to really cluster f
k it up,however i think you will find that a new lee harvey oswald will shoot him ,probably in a southern state, when that happens the dollar will disapear up its own jacksi, that will be the time to buy all the bits,,,,,,,,,mid feb i reckon.
