So where does the name come from? Obviously Poddington,
but is there some connection with Christmas and Santa?

Santa comes from the Santa Ana drag strip in California. Pod..well you know!

Nowt to do with Christmas but hey, suitable for this time of year huh?

The name pre-dates the sport. As has been the norm in military recruitment since Roman times, groups of soldiers, airmen and navel ratings tended to be qrouped according to geographic oregin. It so happenned that the 92nd USAF Group all came from around Santa Ana. When they were stationed at Podington, the name Santa Pod fell into common usage locally, and stuck.
