what size is the blower? 6/71 should fit without problems, 8/71 will most likely need an offset drive

Hi Mat

You can borrow my one, are you going be at Warwick on the 24th?
Adams right the rotor length (case length between the plates) is 15" for a 6/71 & 16" for an 8/71

Im currently going through this problem with my bbc/ 8/71 set up.
My dizzy hits the blower and im about 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the blower lining up with the blower manifold bolt holes. I bought a brand new msd dizzy and it is too wide and around 4 3/4inch wide on the cap.
Ive heard there is a mallory that is narrower and is touch and go as to weather it will fit or not.
Ive heard of an off set drive But havnt a clue as to what one is !
Can someone tell me of tell me how they work..

The offset drive is essentially a belt in a housing, ontop of the existing mag drive shaft, which takes the generator further out. There's normally options of how many inches of offset you need (dependant on blower case length, be it 8/71 thru to 14/71). Typical offset drives look like this (Chevy ones at least):

It could be you just need what IIRC, is a flat top dizzy. Essentially a regular one, but squished to clear underneath a blower (piccy below):

If I recall correctly a Vertex mag is slimmer and might fit better, although some people seem to dismiss them purely because they are 'old'.

Although they may be slimmer, they are just as tall, and that really is the problem. As for old vertex being no good just cause there old, well thats pretty accurate,on a fuel engine ,an old mag is poison,we have ours rezapped every year at don zigs, whats interesting is that he will uprate say a 4 amp mag to 12 amp,,,,,,ish, and so on,but what is neat is that he will rework an old style mag to produce modern amperage,,,,so all the nostalgia stuff can look right and perform,,,,,,,,,,,,,looks like you need an offset drive as in the piccy,as you state you are using a supermag 3,or a front mounted mag drive which if you have the room are good news,as you can leave the mag in when servicing the p@xy thing!
