I was put up for an award with work and the gifts included spa weekends, trips to paris, driving a ferrari etc.. but included in the list was a 1/2 days experience in driving one of paul marston's cars. Needless to say I jumped at the chance to drive a car that, baring a windfall, i'll never be able to afford.

I haven't really heard of many reports of how good it is,obviously paul will say it's well worth the money, but has anyone taken up this opportunity and what can i really expect ?!

One of my must do things, plan to see Paul at Easter and hopefully arrange for late summer this year.

I'll second that, Paul is very experienced and very professional. You couldn't want a better tutor.

Two regular posters on this forum have done the "experience" - no doubt they will be along soon...

Be careful, it's an addictive thing :-) I treated myself to his driving experience a few years ago and was hooked. I've ended up raced every season since then (initially in Paul's cars, now in my own). It's a good introduction to racing, and the only advice I have is to go along and have fun. Even if you have experience of driving fast road cars, you won't be prepared for just how quickly a race car accelerates, and if you're anything like me, you'll end up with a grin plastered all over your face...

What can you expect? Well the day will start with familiarisation with the car, making sure you're comfortable with the seat and the controls. You'd normally start with a small burnout and simple launch and idle down the track, going progressively further down the track under power with each pass, depending on how satisfied Paul is with your progress. If you don't cock anything up (and if you stick to what he tells you, you won't), you'll end up doing a full two speed burnout and the full quarter mile under power.

Tet, what fast stuff had you driven before?

Just trying to see what perspective you had .

Nothing bonkers. Hot hatches, TVRs, Lotuses, Alfas, etc. But even had I been driving exotic Italian supercars, Grumpy is still several seconds quicker than most of them, as are the rest of Paul's cars.

thanks for the feedback chaps. I spoke to Paul today, thoroughly nice bloke by the sounds of it and I should be getting my dates sorted tomorrow. The most pleasant part of the conversation was Paul's offer to crew with his team before the day just to get some experience.

I now need to inform the wife that our bank balance may be at risk in the coming months if I end up loving it !!

I had a passenger ride in Paul's Grumpy Dodge. It was a life changing experience for me and has made me step up another gear.

Paul and his team were great, top people!!

I can't reccomend this too highly,
Paul, Sam and the guys are a great bunch.

Don't tempt me! I saw the ad on Eurodragster, and I have been trying to come up with a way to justify the expense. But sadly, bargain though it is, I just don't think I can part with that amount of money right now :-(
