's Mercedes CLK is entered in Pro Stock for the Main Eventbounceclapcloud9woohoo

This is a car I have been eager to see for several years now. Yet another reason to be cheerful.

Edit for poor spelling

It's got a Hemi: http://www.pro-stock.de/pg44.html

Is that a liberal interpretation of the rules (Mercedes - DaimlerChrysler - Hemi) or was there an FIA rule change?

Variety, I think, is the order of the day in a category which doesn't rate amongst my favourites. Similar (or same) cars doing same same same all the time, simply doesn't float it for me - that's just a personal thing - not a dig - a personal preference, that's all. What DOES make it more interesting is to have some different or even 'local' cars involved. I shall look forward to seeing the CLK and even more, would I look to the return of this C70:-

It qualified in a tight field, the last time I saw it, but I was flabbergasted when the team came out with an 02/03 GrandAm in 2008... something to do with no money from Volvo, they said... I preferred this one's little trick of carrying those front wheels past the tree, every time it ran.

Hi Martin (Time Machine),

AFAIK this is legal, because in the time the car was produced
the factory was "Daimler-Chrysler".
I saw the car on its first outing in Drachten 2 years ago, it looks good in my eyes.
Sadly, the engine was not up to the high standards needed to be competitive
in FIA Pro Stock, and it took "Dirty Harry" a while to earn the dosh
for the new US powerplant in his car-glass shop.
I will see Harry this weekend at the "Test & Tune" on MZA Luckau,
hope everything runs well there and during the 09 season.
By the way, he made the negative/positive forms for the body himself,
rumor has it that a rental CLK was involved........hehe
Regards,
Benni

Have to agree it's nice to see something else, really liked this car when I saw it at Hockenheim.

Better late than never, sorry for the delay :
Harald was at the Test & Tune weekend on MZA Luckau,
but only to refresh his chassis stickers,
as I was commentating I did only see him trailering in & out....frown

Short T&T review :
Other FIA/UEM starters were Marco Maurischat with his blown Corvette,
he used the event to blow the cobwebs out of car & team,
but could not find the "very soft" setup to make a decent run
on the strip, wich -although prepped- is not up to FIA-track standards.

Other racers found too much traction,
we had a S/G Barracuda with a literally exploded trans on the startline,
large pieces of the case entered the inside of car and ripped away
2/3 of the gas pedal, driver was lucky to escape with a blue foot.
Several driveshafts gave way, some in spectacular manner.

UEM Funny Biker Chris Jäger has a new design and some new parts
on the "Black7" Suzuki, but the new and larger rear tire could not be aligned properly,
causing the bike to drift away from the groove.
Fellow Funny biker Thomas Joswig made a return to the strip
after 4 years with new engine setup, but still has to work
on the 2-step boost & launch, maybe we´ll see him in Hockenheim.

Positive news was 19-year old Patricia Kästner´s first run in a blown Comp Dragster,
a 7.1 and then a 7.2 with 302 Km/h,
setting PBs for driver and SBC car owned by Silvio Strauch.

More and more german SSB racers switch over to the turbo side,
following the example that Thomas Granica has set (he won a strightliners race recently),
with some "Big CC" material & bikes getting ready for the season,
and hopefully more 7sec passes.

Another highlight was the first outing of german SP/ET racing,
resulting in a 14-car field indexing between 5.2 and 5.7 ,
they run the 1/8 mile for shutdown/safety reasons.
Norbert Schneider with the "Silver Bullet" ex-Tramm Corrado
was runner-up to Danny Burger´s BBC "vintage Pro Stock" Corvette.
He´ll be back in Pod for the Main Event.

P/ET had 15 cars between 10.5 and 13,99,
this is also growing very good in its second season.

A big number of dutch 9.50 bikers and some SSB / FB / STTG made the trip,
one of them had bad luck when his brand-new 9.50 ZZR 1400 backflipped,
but they don´t only invest in their bikes but also in good rider´s equipment,
a quick hospital check showed no serious harm.
That´s just a short review, if you are interested in pix see here :
