Although my wife has been driving for twenty five years, she has never been one to "make progress" on the road, not least because she's usually had a car full of children. Well, she's finally decided she would like a sports car whilst she can still enjoy it, and we've just bought an S54 M Coupe (no point messing about!). I would like to buy her some track training so that she can get the feel of using the performance in a safe environment with suitable instruction, but it would be no good sending her straight into the average track day (much too intimidating). So is there a location, preferably within reach of Cambridge, ideally an airfield circuit with lots of runoff which does training for track day newbies, maybe even ladies only? Not looking for her to break any lap records, but be able to take it up to the redline and use all the power, and get the feel of braking and cornering closer to the limits than is safe on the public road.

also worth enquiring about a limit handling day with Don Palmer (typically done at Bruntingthorpe - i.e. loads of runoff with no danger of doing any damage)

I do a lot of that sort of training. We could go to an airfield with Javelin or Motorsport Events, please see here for more information http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Try these:

http://www.driverdp.com/documents/dates.xml

Instruction on a high speed circuit, twisty handling circuit and skidpan all in one day with an instructor always at your side. Events usually held at Pro-drives test facility in Warwickshire.

In the circumstances I would suggest this as by far the best option if possible. Try to get Carolyn herself doing the training or another woman its much less intimidating.

I'm with Simon on that. Good idea. She'd really enjoy a day with Caroline.

or there is always Donington in the fast group with Goldtrack.......that would save you a fortune as the missus will be happy with the FOrd Ka after that and forget about going fast altogether.

Seconded - I did one of these on Monday and learnt a huge amount.
He also does women only days - max of 4 people on the day as well so plenty of 1 to 1 tuition.

I just came back from driverdp day at Prodrive. It was awesome! Learnt loads and improved loads.

I had Simon who is a rally driver and rally instructor. I've never witnessed a car "MAXED OUT" so much on such a tight course on the "adverse handling" track. We did a clean and tidy lap and wild handbrake lap in my FWD MINI. Just wish I brought a video camera.

Just as good if not better than a novice track day!
