Anyone going?

Will be there in a 993 RS. First time at Bedford. Interested to know how difficult the track is? Was thinking of getting an instructor session, any experience of these?

Is there fuel on site or nearby? More than half a tank is needed for front ballastwink, last track day it used 130 litres.

not going as on hols but bedford is not difficult at all. Plenty of run off in nearly all areas, lots of stop start and heavy braking with very few flowing corners.

flat and featurless so you will need to concentrate to learn and improve braking points etc as very hard to remember where each lap you put down the pedals!

it is also very socialble as everybody hangs in the hospitality suite with free coffee and is ver comfortable even in bad weather.

fuel on site but is as usual a little more pricey but seems less and less relevant with current fuel hikes

laps are about 3 minutes plus depending on what version of GT ciruit they give you

enjoy

If it's like last time, I'll be making a lunchtime sortie to the Shell garage up the road for a refill of their finest V-Power (assuming a full tank will last me all morning).

It's about 6 miles from the circuit, did it last time in my mate's M3 with 2 miles range showing on the computer when we left the track eek

I'll be there in my black m5. This will be my first time on a track day in my own car. I'm obviously looking forward to the driving but also it will be good to meet like minded enthusiasts! I booked the instruction as I think you can always learn with some expert feedback.

Definately worth at least 1 session so the instructor can show you the "racing" line. By using the lines shown to me I caught up with my mates 350z, which was taking some very different and less efficient lines. (mind you it wan't being driven by the owner at the time, but still. MX5 vs 350z smile )

If you have stock brakes then take it easy on them. Bedford generally has straights followed by heaving braking slow corners. In my e39 m5 I found it only took a few corners before the brakes complain and after a lap the pedal started getting soft. You will struggle to do more than 1-2 laps without letting them cool down.

If you have uprated brakes then ignore the above....

Have fun...

The only upgrades I did to my MX5 brakes are racing fluid and Greenstuff pads. Standard disks, calipers and lines. Greenstuff are hardly ideal for track as well. But I still spent a solid 25 minutes out on track without fade. My guess is the fluid is not only the cheapest and easiest upgrade but makes the most difference on the MX5 as well.

Thanks for the advice - as this car is already costing me a packet i'm intending to take it fairly easy (well, at least that's what i think at this moment).

Not sure if you mistook my m5 post as an mx5 one. The mx5 is a lot lighter car and therefore probably can stay out there much longer anyway. Nonetheless, I agree with you that a higher performance braking fluid and better pads can be a economical upgrade to allow moderate track use.
