Looking at getting a car for the track but wanted to keep the price as low as possible, I know most people would say go for an mx5 or mr2 but I saw this and thought it was a bargain, only just seen it so dont know much about the car or track days in fact.
What do people think, are parts expensive.

They're only cheap if nothing goes wrong.

Consumables aren't too bad but if you start having to fix major mechanical items then you're into budget-busting territory.

If you're after cheap rwd then you wont go wrong with a BMW e30 of some sort.

I'm looking at a very similar dilema myself at the moment.

Never ran one on the track, but my experience of the front engined Porsches on the roads is that 'off the shelf' parts (addmittedly, not from Porsche!) were surprisingly cheap. I guess you can get plenty of BMW bits out of scrap yards, but I found things like dampers and wheel bearings were cheaper to replace (new) on my Porsche, than a mate's 90s Toyota Corolla! I suppose the problem comes if the engine goes bang in a big way, but I think they're fairly tough if you go for the 8v unit. The 16v cam assembly (particularly the earlier S, as opposed to the S2) is said to be quite fragile.

I ran the S2 below as a track car for a couple of years. As mentioned, they are cheap as long as nothing goes wrong.

How track orientated is the car you are looking at? I bought my car standard and fitted the following:

M030 front hubs and brakes
Full Cage
Race seats
Harnesses
KW V3 suspension

Add to that 'general stuff' like spare wheels and tyres, braided hoses...

it all adds up to a fair bit.

But F%^&ME was it a fun car to drive...

Well I saw this on ebay and looked a bargain, but too far away but something like this would be ideal wouldn't it?

I went from an E30 to a 944 16v,it was fantastic even in standard trim, the turn in,even in the wet was great. Very controllable too,and although its alledgedly a cheap Porsche, its still a Porsche and good fun at that!

It will cost you plenty more to fix than an e30 though!
