Powernights - any good
Discussion

Anyone done these at Silverstone - sounds like cheap racing for little more than the price of a track day.
I guess the car needs to be specially prepared and I need a licence, but I'm suprised they havn't cropped up more on discussions here
some catch surely

James,
I did all of them, the 3 last year and the first one this year at Silverstone. The requirements are exactly the same as any other racing, you need a license (Nat B is fine) and race ready car (roll cage/electrical cutout/extinguisher/harness). What I like about them as someone who is generally renting and unknown car is that it's all done on one day and you get a fair bit of testing before quali and the races.
The atmosphere is great although the first one this year was disappointing due I think to poor publicity and being held in school time (so families didn't come in the evening). There is music in the paddock, proper stage and presentation, bbq, prize money etc. etc. The racing is usually very good (Round 1 is being shown on Motors at the moment).
Sadly they had to cancel rounds 2 & 3 and we are just left with the Powernight Festival which is being held on 21st August. If you don't have a suitable race car there are options to rent at very reasonable costs (not by me, just folks I know), PM if you are interested.
