Static vs Drive by noise testing

Folks, the other day I managed a respectable 90dB static 1m @ 45deg and 4500rpm. What are the drive by levels likely to be with a redline about 6000?

The static was Oulton last Tuesday, the drive by will be Donington next Monday evening at 98dB driveby according to the final instructions.

Iain, I took my old 911 to Donington last year, it seemed a fair bit noiser than your 325 and it still passed the noise test. Don't think you'll have any problems.

You wont have any problem. My 911 does about 100db static and a lot of the noise dissipates on drive by. You'd need a really noisy car to clock 98db driveby.....;)

Depends on the car. I was at a Goodwood quiet day today which is 98dB static, 96dB drive-by. I scraped by the static, no problem on drive-by, but someone else with an Exige was fine on static, but managed to trigger all the drive-by meters in one lap, averaging over 100dB. He had to keep it below 6000 rpm for the rest of the day!

911s normally suffer in static and are this comparatively good in driveby. Its horribly unfair that engine + induction noise counts against us on static tests...
