'ring this weekend?

From someone who was there on Saturday:
An Irish 997 GT2 had a coolant leak and didn't stop as he should have.
Coasted down to the car park dumping 22 litres of oil based coolant.
7 following cars and one motorbike were binned. Including a GT3 and an M5.
Nearly took out 2 ring taxis.
He was followed to the car park, the police were called etc.
The circuit was closed for hours whilst they steam cleaned the surface to get the oil off.
Let's hope he has good insurance as he is in for several hundred thousand pounds.

Seems there were two nasty incidents at the 'ring on Saturday, one in the morning with the Irish numberplated GT3 dropping coolant at Kallenhard, and another in the afternoon, the driver that time doesnt seem to have been found. The following comments are off another forum and show how serious these incidents can be.
Remember folks, if you have a coolant leak, stop the car!!!

He was out of the car when a 996 also lost it, bobsledded round the armco and piled into his car, wiping the rear of it out. And I mean wiped out, you should see the pictures he's posted! Fortunately he too was able to vault the armco and get out of the way, hopefully the 996 driver is OK because it looks like a hefty impact. According to him there were 5 cars and 2 bikes involved

Shesh, Terrible news.
How exactly does a crash work? I know you get billed for time closed and Armcos, but lets for instance say you do drop fluid. Sometimes you only know when its too late. If someone hits that, and bins their car, are you liable? Track days I'm used to its part of the territory. Also, if you realise you have a leak, and pull over, how can you ensure you are not liable for others hitting it?
Makes me hesitant to drive this coming weekend....well ever actually.....if you liable for all machinery on the track. My car doesnt leak, but a couple of laps at 7000rpm could change things on any car.

The Nürburgring GmbH will hold the person who drops fluids responsible for:
- Barrier damage from all follow on crashes
- Fluids & cleanup costs for all other cars
- Recovery costs for all other vehicles
- Track closure time (@ €1300 p/h)
- Safety car attendance, marshals time, etc etc
All this easily can run into tens of thousands.
Also, the insurance companies of all those other crashed vehicles can come after you and your insurance company for the cost of those vehicles, and potentially even the medical bills etc.
Lastly, the police may lay charges ranging from mild traffic offenses and a small fine, through to serious big stuff if it appears there was wilful disregard etc.

If you even suspect a fluid leak pull onto the grass as quickly as you can(safely). If it appears you are leaking get back down the track as fast as you can & flag from behind the barriers.FAILURE TO DO THIS CAN AND DOES KILL PEOPLE.

One other correction to comments about this incident.
The GT3 driver didn't need finding, he pulled of at Breidscheid more or less immediately after seeing some steam and apparantly was quick to hold his hand up to the fluid loss. It appears he was just unlucky he didn't realise he had a problem until well past the point where all the damage was done. I also heard he went back up to inspect the scene and was taking responsibility for it.
He appears to have acted appropriately.
i was there on the sunday and had a fab passenger ride with the same Zacspeed Viper driver (Andy) in their other car who was involved in the huge accident, he said he was the first around the corner came and went into a un-controlable spin, the car was written off
he told me this just as we went under the barrier for the start of the lap
when he got out of the car after the ride he was hobbling around, not sure if that was from the accident though

I said to the people I was with that we'd only seen 1 zakspeed viper leave the carpark while the track was closed. That would explain why.

no I meant were they were trailered away (from Nurburg village), on a six-car lorry, which belonged to a Scandinavian shipping company.There were 3 997 GT?, a white Ferrari, and two other exotica.
997T, 997GT3RS, Scuderia and possibly others. Did you race there in the weekend?Edit: White turbo, white ferrari and green gt3
