Yip!
Bought my G/F a trackday. She'll be in the black 964 C2. I'm taking the Ult for a run out and I'll try to get a noise check for future reference.
Watch out for a Corolla piloted by a couple of very handy pedalers. They won't be using the brakes to slow the car down for the corners!!!

That would be John you are referring to - you need to be-friend him and after that he will still tell you off, but in a more tongue in cheek way that is less likely to induce instant dislike. I got told off when I came in from each of the mornings three sessions, bit of yes Sir/no Sir and I lived to have a reet good afternoon session and only got talked at about flags that I did not react to quickly enough when I came in early on the last session because I had run out of fuel
.
Mastering officials is easier than mastering the track I find.

The whole idea of doing TD's is to drive faster than you do on the road and learn how your car handles etc...
What is the point of driving along as if you have Miss Daisy in the car?
I've spoken to many other TD folk who have never been told off for having a 'moment' all by their lonesome -only when thay have behaved badly with other cars.
Jeeze, it's like I'm human, you know, John? I make the odd mistake, as I'm sure he does too. I found him totally out of order, as did a few others.
I can't imagine why I'd want to befriend him, just so i don't get an ear bashing IF I get out of shape again at Goodwood (IF I bother to go again!).
I'm more inclined to write to the GRRC/Goodwood and complain about the wee man and his way of communicating with clients.

I didn't mean to imply that you should befriend the man so that he does not tell you off in such an unacceptable manner but he is the main man in this case and whether you agree with his reprimand or not, what he says goes
Maybe you caught him at a bad moment but he is only there to up hold the safety of others and keep the good name of the track. IF you do not bother to go again, it is only YOU who will loose out.
I agree with your sentiment with regards to not driving with Miss Daisy in the car and I too was reprimanded for overtaking a young lady in an MX5 after her not seeing me on the straight and waving me past and then having to sit behind her from Fordwater until the beginning of the Lavant Straight and was told that 'I had frightened the life out of her' when I eventually did go past her: WTF?

My thoughts were that she should not be doing a track day with such bad awareness/eyesight and a frail disposition but I just agreed and got on with business.
You may have had your card marked but toughen up man, don't let the Bustard's grind you down

Hopefully may see you there sometime

I think in that kinda situation you have to bite your lip a little and be the bigger man. I do remember you telling me about it.
I thought the sound lady was a little tough, but i suppose you have to be with a 10k burden over your head at all times!!
Im only going to do 105db days from now on, because slowing down every second corner and bimberling past the noise meters is very frustrating!

It's not like she'll be paying for it though!
Plus, get this, the two Tuscans lied to get past the noise check! They told them the red line was 5000rpm! FFS, the redline is 7500!
Also, it's not hard being the bigger man where wee John is concerned - perhaps that's part of his problem?!
I can understand the Goodwood has a reputation to uphold, especially with the two fatalities they have had during track days (not races). However if that means employees can mouth off and treat folk with little (if any) respect I feel a rethink is called for. I'm sure they don't want a reputation for hauling every driver that has a slide over the hot coals at Johns feet.
If John reacts this way due to the stress of the job, he needs a different job.

I was asked to rev to 5200 as I told them my redline
is 7200. Failed at 104db. Never failed before at Donington or Bedford but then they only asked for 4000rpm
and didn't check redline. They (Goodwood) asked me to go for a drive to warm the engine and then try again.
I told them that I'd just driven 50 miles to get here
and it's as up to temp as it's going to get. So they said take it up to 5200 but with the clutch in and slower. They registered 100db, but marked it down as 98*
don't know what the asterisk is for? Anyhow got on in the
end, had a great day and didn't get pulled for noise.
Anyone know what one of the TVR guys was doing to his exhaust? Did he change the baffles or something?

The TVR that was working on his exhaust in the morning did not get on the track so the guy with the similar looking TVR that DID get on the track was telling me
I am very concerned about silencing your vehicle enough to get on track as I have a 650 BHP Ultima and @ over 100 db I fear it may be near on impossible to get below 98 db, hell, it is going to be an achievement to get below 105

Wayne buy a supertrap for the ultima, they do restrict flow but allows you to do the quieter trackdays.
The guy in his TVR took it out for a good thrash around the country lanes then took it for noise testing, ohh and did twist the truth slightly on his rev counter.
But if your not cheating then your not trying hard enough!!!

The problem with trackdays is always the capabilities of the other drivers whether they are slow and unpredictable, fast and unpredictable or sooo much quicker than you they catch you before you know it. Some people also get very upset if blown away by a 'slower' or 'inferior' car - eg my road legal competition MG Midget is quicker than my 996 GT3 at every circuit they have both been to from the Nordschleife to Spa to Goodwood.
I'd rather have Miss Daisy than some t
t in a fast car who is all over the place and likely to take himself off and me with him. I was there a couple of weeks ago and there was such an individual in a very nice 993 - however he didn't appreciate a 1963 MGB on crossplies climbing all over him at every corner. It took me 1.5 laps to get past as I had a 200bhp disadvantage in a straight line......
Regarding noise it has been a problem at Goodwood for years. There are microphones around the circuit so there is little point in telling them your redline is 6000 when it is really 7500 as the circuit mikes will pick it up. Interestingly my MGB made 104db at the test ie I got through by a gnat b
k but on track a Civic Type R with big exhaust and a F430 were much louder and could be heard all the way round, although neither was pulled.
I guess the way to avoid the wrath of the little Hitler is to not exceed your limits.

Numerous folk had 'moments' last Saturday, only a couple got attitude and abuse from the 'Little Hitler' as you so aptly put it. Bias, anyone? Perhaps he has links to the FIA? LOL.R
My wife and I plan to hill climb and sprint our car and last Saturday was only the third time out in the car (on track), so therefore learning was happening. How on earth does one progress and get quicker if you keep driving the same lines (quite possibly the wrong lines), using the same braking points (ditto), etc, etc? We wish to learn...by-products of this process are mistakes, once in a while.
Our limits, and the cars, are still quite a way off (well, that's what the instructor said, LOL) therefore it was not as a result of 10/10 driving as Little Hitler put it. Besides, 10/10 driving should occur on track, not on the road, no?
