Tyre advice please

I posted this in 'general gassing' but then thought this may be a better place.
It's time for some new tyres for my 1979 Rover Sd1 4.6. The old ones were on the car when I got it and although they have plenty of tread left, are ancient and have lost their grip.
As you can guess from the engine size, the car is modified with lowered suspension and Jaguar XJS brakes. It'll be used for fast road and occasional track day use but not many miles a year, so tyre life is irrelevant. Wet and dry grip are the main must haves, not silly expensive would be nice. Size is 205/60/15 and they're V rated.
Any suggestions please? I've had a good look round online but recommendations from PHers who have a heavy rwd car would be appreciated.
