i have been running with dunlop ssr tyres on track days over the last 18 months, but they are no longer available. i now want to buy a set of new tyres and my choice is between toyo 888 and federal ss595rs tyres because of the size i require. has anyone had experience with the federal tyres? they look like they would work better in damp (winter) track days. any help would be helpful

R888 is a great choice.

If you go to a 255/40/18 you can run a Hoosier R6 - a grooved slick which will be phenomenal on a Sagaris.

If you go to 265/35/18 you can run Michelin Cups or Pirelli Motorsport Corsa's.

All these options are road legal except the Hoosiers. The Cups are not great in the wet but mega in the dry. The Corsa's and R888's are great all rounders. All these tyres are a step up from the SSR's, especially the Hoosiers which are on another planet in terms of grip!

I`d also be interested in people views on the FEDERAL SS595RS,

888 & 048`s don`t do my tyre size 205/45/16

Camskill do
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m12b0s...
KUMHO V70A but there £115 each
I did buy 2 off there HANKOOK RS2 Z 212 and stuck them on the front but even thou camskill class them as a trackday tyre they do squeel and i still suffer understeer. IMHO i wouldn`t class them as an outright track tyre.

Next year i fancy a set off the FEDERAL SS595RS which are £89, so anyone who has used them could give me some feedback on how they preformed would be appreciated.

Cheers

had a set of federals to replace pilot sports on my e36 m3...transformation was astonishing, really happy with them.Understeer pretty well banished, great traction, they've worn pretty well and i even drove home with them on as i could n't be bothered to change back to pilots. They were worth @3 seconds at brands and so much more driveable..v happy.

595rs are good tyres. I have them on the front of my Esprit and they are grippy, not too noisy and well priced.

All the noise about R888 I can understand as I had D01J once (similar tyre type) and the grip is enormous but they were noisy for daily use.

I used the Feds for one track day at an Airfield I forget and they were impressive.
