Hi, i've put this in a couple of forums with no joy, so creating my own thread. What everyone's opinion on using a 4 door E30 325i for track days? The BMW in question is also going to be free for me.

you'll be surprised what they can do. I have a mate who uses his G reg 325i E30 touring on the Ring to great effect. It embarasses cars with much more power!

things to consider:
-anti roll bars
-bushes
-brake hoses / fluid pads
-dampers
-spring rates (non progressive)
-diff ratio
-possibly LSD - but not really needed if you upgrade the suspension carefully.
-something to keep you in the seat (CG-lock, or a harness)
-better tyres (although you'd be surprised how quick you can go on road biased tyres with well set up susp.)

Do it do it!!! I have one, when it is stripped and has new shocks/springs, anti-roll bars, track tyres and an LSD it will embarass many much more expensive cars.

What condition is the car in?

If I'm going to be really honest, if it is in good original nick with little or no rust, I'd say leave the car standard and buy a cheapo E36 and use that. Good E30's are becomming thin on the ground and although the car you mention is a 4 door and not the sought after two door 325i Sport, I'd suggest looking after it.

Only my opinion though!

There is rust but I am using it as an excuse to learn to weld, I know a 2 door is better but I can get this free.
