Good evening all,
I'm new to trackdays (having only done a novice day at snetterton last year), and I'd like to know what people think about this...
I was over at bedford autodrome on saturday for the afternoon session of the novice trackday that was running. The start was delayed due to it being too foggy, and half an hour after we were due to go out they announced that it was off, but if by some miracle it cleared up, we could go out. They said that everyone would get a refund of some sort but couldn't say how much.
Well it looked like the fog wasn't going to shift so I went home(along with several others), without getting on track.
I phoned MSV to find out about my refund and they said that the afternoon session HAD run later on, and because of this I was only entitled to 50% of my total booking fee. The afternoon session was £79 and I'd booked a session with an instructor for £25, so the total is £104.
Now even though I didn't get to go on track, I can (almost) accept that I'm not getting ALL of my money back... afterall, I could have stayed all afternoon to wait and see if the weather improved. I'm not sure losing 50% is very reasonable, but there you go...
What I'm most unhappy about is not getting the full £25 fee back for the instructor that i didn't use. It's the priciple, not the £12.50 that I'm bothered about. How can they take money off me for an instructor booking that I haven't used?
This has all left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, and left me thinking that MSV(who I used for my Snetterton trackday and was very happy with) are a bunch of money-grabbers.
I'm keen to know if it's just me that thinks this isn't right, or am I overreacting?

I'd ask them to transfer the instructor session FoC to another track day of your choice.

Well, you should have stayed just a little bit longer wink

The fog was gone in 20min after the announcement and we've spent the whole afternoon on the track.

Nooooooooooo!! 20 mins! Really? I'm even more gutted now. Oh well...
I felt sure it wouldn't run that afternoon. Don't you think the bloke making the announcement made it sound like there wasn't a cat in hell's chance?
I'm going to phone MSV tomorrow to ask about getting the instructor fee transfered. Fingers crossed...

Well, I've had everything at home arranged for a whole day away so I just thought I'll give it another hour.
As for Instructor's fee, have you asked them specifically? I understood that you get 50% refund of your TOTAL BOOKING, so that means that it should include it.

On the instructors fee: there is no reason why you shouldn't get that all back.

On the track fee: I think you should have waited to see if it was offically called off or not.

Why don't you give Alex at MSV a call? He's a proper chap and I'm sure you will have a good coversation.

Phew. I can calm down now! I've spoken to MSV(not Alex though), and they've transfered the instructor session onto my new booking for Bedford on Jan 24th. So I've lost 'only' 50% of trackday fee.

With hindsight, it was definitely a mistake to leave almost straight after the announcement, but to me they did sound pretty certain it wasn't going to run that afternoon.

Never mind - I'm looking forward to January now anyway. I just hope it's not bloody foggy again! smile

Thanks for the feedback gents.

If it makes you feel any better I did exactly the same and missed all the action. I was booked on the morning and only got a handful of laps - unfortunately I HAD to leave (I'd have booked the whole day if I could..).

Still, I really enjoyed the circut for the laps I did get in my MK1 MR2 - I'l be heading back soon.

I paid for instruction with MSV once, but never had it - they refunded my fee on the day.

MK2_SC - When I turned up, I think I heard an MR2 driver saying their car had failed the noise regs... wasn't you was it?

No wasn't me - it was the white MK1 MR2 that was prepped for the MR2 challenge. He got something like 109db on the static test
