Hi,

Does anyone know if the there are any ring hire companies that will hire to someone aged 22? I'm not after anything special, just something that's prepped properly and that will be insured to take out on the ring.

Thanks in advance.

RSR Nurburg don't seem to have a minimum age on the site that I can see - if their insurers allow them to then you might be able to convince them to rent you one of their Alfa 75s under instruction. If not then I think you are out of luck for a few more years frown

You shouldn't have an issue at all. We've hired to and 18 and 19 year old at the ring. They were very sensible. It's silly money though compared to track car hire in the UK.

Read on - 25 is the minimum age (30 on their higher performance offerings).

Hi mate,

If you take at least one hour's instruction, we'll be happy to rent you the Stage 1 or 2 Alfas, or the Clio 197 Cups.

Prices and regs at www.rsrnurburg.com

The Alfa 75's look a bargain if you have 2 drivers for the full day. Ill be booking these over the Summer! smile

Buy a 'shed BMW 325i? Split the cost between mates and that way you have something to drive over in (back is less certain, but one would hope very achievable)

It should work out at same cost, especially if you only insure for 4 days etc.

Yep, the unlimited miles makes it great value. All other rentals I've seen at the ring typically allow 10 laps on a full days rental, two people could easily do heaps more than that. I've done as many as 30 in one day in my own car.

You wont have a cage, seats, harnesses, or decent suspension etc but it could still be good for a laugh.

Just make sure its in decent condition, if it blows up on the ring & drops oil or coolant you could end up with a massive bill.

Make sure you've got plenty of life in the brake pads, oem rubbish won't last long. Keep a very close eye on it for leaks.

If you're going to 'tour' the nordschleife, the old shed option is realistic.

If you're going to try and drive hard, you're putting peoples lives at risk by deliberately buying an old knackered car that might give up at any point, dump fluids and kill somebody. All for one visit to the ring. Don't even get me started on the insurance, which on a UK temp policy will almost certainly not cover you.

Still, if it works out at the same price as hiring a caged, prepped and properly insured track car, that'll be fine, eh?

It's worth double checking. I hired a car last year and the guy was a bit unsure when he found out I was 'only' 25, despite the fact that it was down as the minimum on their website.
