What size for rear on M3 evo Kumho V70a trackday tyres
Discussion
Got some 225/45/17 V70a's for my track wheels , fitted them to the front of the car today & they clear ok but seem wider/bigger than my road tyres as they have a squarer shoulder. I have the staggered wheels, from a guess i would say 245/40 V70a's would not clear the rear arches like normal rd tyres do so i'm thinking of buying 235/40/17 for the rear instead as at least i know i won't have any clearance probs. What do you think ?

If you have traction control, it may be confused by the disparity in front to rear rolling diameters.(the 225 45 vs the 235 40) The 245 40 has a similar rolling diameter to the 225 45.
I have used a US spec E36 M3 for track during the last couple of years. I could not stand the understeer of the staggered set up on the street, let alone the track. So I used a square 17 x 8.5" set up on 235 40 17 Toyo RA1. I also used 10mm spacers on the front wheels to accommodate some camber shims.
If your car is lowered, there's more likelihood of the increased negative camber allowing enough clearance for the 245 40 under the rear arches.

edit. I assumed you were using an E36 m3. If not disregard this opinion.

US Spec E36 M3 Model years 1996 to 1999 have ASC +T.
They did not get the cylinder head or induction systems. Plus the E46 M3 arrived later in the US Market.
My observation about the traction control problems with the 225 45 mixed with 235 40 are based on experience.
Since your car has no traction control , it won't be an issue. You'll simply have better potential gearing for acceleration from the smaller diameter tyres.
