Currently doing a bit of costing research on a track car. Whilst speed and handling are prime concerns safety is at the front of my mind.
When looking at roll cages I keep coming across "show cages" like the one below for example. Does this mean that they are not in anyway helpful in the event of a crash, or just that they are not approved in anyway?

If they are not suitable, what are the approximate costs to purchase and install a suitable cage?
Thanks in advance.

For track days and therefore real world safety not pretend you do need a proper cage. Allot are of the shelf, like Custom cages near Northampton but then you also have ready to fit items from Sparco and OMP via Demon Tweeks.
They are always a pain to fit and useally require some very basic welding but for safety, its worth it.
Prices do not include fitting, in general.

You've got to worry if the two main selling points are good looks and easy fitting. Not really the point of a cage.
A while back Safety Devices did the sort of cage you're after for Clio 172s. It was a straight bolt in/out half rear cage job which Oulton Park used in their 'experience' cars. Not as good as a full cage, but it was properly done. Don't know if they did something similar for your car, but the clio ones crop up for sale from time to time.
