Hi

I'm looking to do a trackday at SPA this summer can anyone recommend a good organizer?

So far I've tried.

Book A track - Only got a two day event which I can't really afford.

Easy Track - don't have anything on their web site, I've e-mailed them and await their response.

Auto trackdays - got one in june which is ideal apart from the date, but may be the way forward.

Is there anyone else worth looking at?

"gay overtaking rules?"

When's the last time you got stuck behind someone on the Kemmel? There's so much space for people to move over at Spa it's not even an issue.

Nurburgsingh - http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=238... come along, it is such a great day, normally a mix of evos, skylines, csls, few porkers (there was an awesome 997 RSR there testing last year).

Stuart - not sure what you are on about with that picture, if it is an insult then let me know and I will start crying or something.

The point is they don't need to move over, you can go either side of them, outbrake them, overtake mid corner, the onus is on the overtaking car to do so safely, the slower car can crack on with their lap, you can get on with your lap, no need to wait until the straight, indicate, move over etc. Nice to be treated like a grown up. These rules work brilliantly, no one get's upset at being baulked by a slower car, no one get's upset at having someone hassle them, no one gets upset because there appear to be cars on track with no rear view mirrors, there are no frustrated lunges, it is just a relaxed grown up environment where people take responsibility for their own actions.

Can't say I've found any of that a problem at Spa TBH.

Spa or not the problems with most trackdays are the same.

Are you saying you never catch someone at the end of a straight and then have to wait until the corner exit before you are allowed to overtake? You never catch anyone mid corner? You never feel as if you could've out braked someone easily and been gone without causing any problems to either party? You never find yourself wanting to overtake on the right and having to wait for the car in front to move to the right and indicate because you have to pass on the left which messes up both your laps?

My point was that it's not really a problem at Spa compared to anywhere else due to number of straights and how long they are, and the two days I've been on weren't crowded and everyone used their mirrors. So no, I haven't had those problems at Spa and I don't think the rules are 'gay'.

There are plenty of other circuits where it's a problem, but not Spa. The places where it is a problem are e.g. round the back of Donny. Getting rid of overtaking rules in places like that is a very bad idea IMO, but I don't want to reopen that old can of worms because it's pretty dull.

We will have to agree to disagree then, I hate the fact that you are treated like a child on UK trackdays. RMA at the 'ring were ace too, same rules - "Just be sensible and don't crash", what more rules do you need?

Either way I can recommend the Spa days run by the MLR to standard Belgian trackday rules (have done a few Marc Duez days there too with the same rules), I much prefer them to the UK run days I've done there (with Autotrack).

If everyone's trustworthy then yep, I agree it would be fine. It only works when you know and trust the people around you though, and if somebody tw@ts in to your car it's your problem regardless of what gets said in the briefing. Sounds like that works for you, so fair play.

Personally i avoid any days that dont have the gay overtaking rules. When someone over drives trying to get past and wipes out the side of my car i'd be pretty upset especially 6 or 700 miles from home at spa....the gay rules exist for a reason, its a trackday, other wise it'd be a race day and we'd all be wearing race suits, have cages and cut off switches etc.

If you enjoy the anarchy of no rules except dont crash then thats your call, as I've said personally I dont. Even when racing there has to be an element of respect for your fellow competitors, their car and your's

And that respect exists perfectly without the only overtake on the left, on the straight after the car in front has indicated rule. The only car to car contact I've seen has been at days with the overtaking rules in place...

Have to say that's a great rate (£249) that MLR is providing for a day at Spa!

Wasn't there a thread back in the summer about a radical and a caterham coming together at Spa, with the "gay overtaking rules" in force?
